Consultant(s) to Survey-establish the Model and Provide Training on Operating the Model of Children Core Group Supporting the Communication Program about School Hygiene and Nutrition

We are looking for a Vietnamese national for:

Vacancy: Consultant(s) to survey-establish the Model and provide training on operating the model of children core group supporting the communication program about school hygiene and nutrition.

Location: Lao Cai

1. Objectives of the Consultancy Service:

To establish communication model to alter knowledge, behaviors and practice related to hygiene and nutrition of children and community in Lao Cai province via establishing and operating student core group in schools.

2. Scope of work:

The consultant who is engaged in this consultancy service, is expected to:

  • Survey the situation at some projected schools in Lao Cai province: the surveyed data including: (i) the situation of establishing and operating student core group (What is the selection criteria of students taking part in the group? Who is responsible for this group? How often does the group meet? What are the topics of the group’s responsibility? How is the group’s ability towards communication activities on the topics of school hygiene facility maintenance, on raising the percentage of student washing their hands at daily importance time?)
  • Compile document on establishing the model of children core group about school hygiene and nutrition (basing on available student group at school), provide guidance on establishing and operating the group as follows:
    • The student core group’s goal: Communication raising children’s cognition, skills and behaviors in order to improve school hygiene and nutrition: school nutrition, personal hygiene, effective usage of hygiene facilities in schools.
    • The student core group is operated in accordance to peer education mode, under the guidance of a responsible teacher. The project will support group in their activity (1 time/month) and towards group’s initiative.
    • The target of student core group is primary and secondary students, including 15 students/group (both boys and girls).
  • Deliver one training course for teachers, school health staff/staff who are in charge of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union or Ho Chi Minh Pioneers' Organization in order to introduce the model, establishment and operation of children core group, provide guidance of selecting group’s member and strengthening capacity for children core group; organization of group’s activity in order to boost the knowledge, skills and practice of school hygiene and nutrition.
  • Write a report on the training course with recommendations for follow-up actions in the target schools, districts and province (including recommendations of implemented activities, capacity building for children core group).

3. Expected Deliverables/Outputs:

  • Write a briefly report key findings after the situation surveys at the schools.
  • Provide a guidance on establishing the communication model of altering cognition and behaviors of school hygiene and nutrition via activities of student core group.
  • Deliver training course for SC’s staff and partners on establishment and operation of student core group.
  • Write a report on the training courses with recommendations for follow-up actions after the training course.

4. Consultant’s Qualifications:

The consultants should demonstrate:

  • Relevant expertise and knowledge on School Health and Nutrition and/or Peer Education.
  • Experience in providing similar training in similar context (local health staff and children of mountainous area).
  • The trainers having master degree and at least 5 years of experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Basic English language skills is an advantage.
