Program “Economic and Social Empowerment with gender perspective” Paz y Desarrollo (PyD) is a Spanish International NGO working in 14 countries around the word. PyD is supporting the implementation of a 4 -year Regional Programme on Economic and Social Empowerment with gender perspective in Vietnam, Cambodia and East Timor, hereinafter referred to as PyD Regional Programme. In Vietnam, the Programme will be implemented is Quang Nam province. BACKGROUND In recent years despite great efforts and determination of the Government of Vietnam as well as commitment of international development organisations, including international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), the degree of poverty among ethnic minorities in Vietnam remains high. Ethnic minorities do not fully benefit from socio-economic development in Vietnam. Further efforts and improvements are required at all levels and in all areas, in order to address this issue.
About the organization The Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance, Belgium (VVOB) is currently implementing 2 programmes in Vietnam: a programme in basic education in North and Central Vietnam and a programme in agricultural extension in South Vietnam. A third programme will be started up this year. The aim is to improve the quality of career guidance and the related common vocational education. This programme has close ties with the education programme (quality of lower secondary education in 5 provinces of North and Central Vietnam (Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai) through an integrated support to the Active Teaching and Learning) and will be implemented in at least 2 of the same provinces.
