The WISTAR Institute (USA) is a global leader in biomedical research with an expertise in cancer, immunology, and infectious diseases. University of Pennsylvania (UPENN, USA) is one the most powerful institution in term of research and teaching.

In partnership with the Medical Institute of Applied Epidemiology (IMEA, FRANCE), they are willing to implement a 5-year research in HCMC, namely: “Effects of mu-opiate receptor engagement on microbial translocation and residual immune activation in HIV-infected, ART suppressed opioid use disorder patients initiating medication-assisted treatment.”, The program will be under the local management of Ho Chi Minh city Aids Association (HAA), in coordination with the Centre of Disease Control (HCDC) and PASTEUR Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and Paris.

We are looking for a counsellor of the project.

Main responsibilities and requested qualifications are as follows:

Qualifications :

  • Any Degree (Bachelor or Master) in biology, nursing, psychology, social work, public health or any other degree in relevant discipline
  • Experience as a counsellor or experience as Research Assistant a plus
  • Experience working with IDUs & HIV and/or in a methadone/suboxone program a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Power Point) and internet
  • Dynamism, flexibility, capacity for team working

Position duties/ Job responsibilities

  • Ensure good counselling Standards for the study;
  • Ensure consultation is carried out daily and actively;
  • Guaranty a psychological support to all patients and re-orientate new coming patient if they can not receive any sort of substitution therapy. Our project is based on long term therapeutic follow up of patients.
  • Adopt a multidisciplinary approach and feeding works on mental health and substitution problematics.
  • Participate to working groups, conference ... related to mental health and substitutioin
  • Supports partners in implementing the project
  • Work with research assistant
  • Contact site staffs in case incorrect or incomplete information is identified in the files or registers
  • Working in consultation with the other members of the staff (doctors, nurses, lab, pharmacists)
  • Participate in writing of reports of the research activity (number of patients enrolled, follow-up rates, drop-outs, etc.)
