Organisation: Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Vietnam

The Woolcock Institute is a lung health research organization, based at Sydney University, Australia (http://www.woolcock.org.au/). The Institute has operated in Vietnam since 2009, we undertake large and important operational and epidemiological and clinical research projects in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis (TB) Program in 10 Provinces, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Woolcock also runs training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers.

Currently, the Woolcock directly employs 70 full-time staff across Vietnam. We are recruiting a motivated and experienced Data Management Assistant to work on the VSMART data system.

The V-SMART Trial is a randomized controlled trial of mHealth intervention to improve treatment outcomes for patients with MDR-TB. Patients and health workers will be linked using new digital technologies, enabling greater continuity of care and improving patient safety. These technologies will allow local health workers and TB programmes to monitor the management of adverse events, support patient adherence and respond rapidly to adverse events before they cause disability.

The study will be conducted within the National TB Program in 10 Provinces of Vietnam. It builds upon a strong existing collaboration between Australian and Vietnamese investigators. The project will enhance local capacity in Health research, and demonstrate the transformative potential of new technologies for both patients and health systems.

Location: Based in Ha Noi, with regular travel to other provinces

Duration: 12 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension. The position will be on a full-time basis

Roles:

The Data Management Assistant is responsible for overview and carrying out data management tasks of V-SMART study.

Direct report: Data Manager

Key staff working within the study:

Duties and Responsibilities

Data collection:

  • Formulate, implement, and enforce proper data collection policies and procedures
  • Work with the Study Manager and Data Manager to train reporting partners on data collection tools
  • Implement quality control activities

Data Management:

  • Develop and implement data management plans
  • Develop and implement an online data management system
  • Oversee data management work performed by project staff and partners as delegated
  • Ensure data system (Research Tool) is operational
  • Manage data entry works/teams
  • Troubleshoot data submission errors and data error issues
  • Provide support to the project team for Case Report Form processing according to SOPs and policies as appropriate
  • Perform and document procedures for data preparation including data cleaning, standardization, and analysis
  • Be responsible for quality control procedure (including, but not limited to, random phone calls to check visits, and also checking data entry quality)
  • Regularly back up data
  • Ensure data management procedures and projects have set timelines and meet established deadlines
  • Develop and update data analysis Dashboard
  • Working with Sydney Data management team on data issues
  • Understand and ensure privacy law and standards
  • Produce periodical data analysis and reports as required by the study
  • Develop ad-hoc reports as necessary
  • Assist in defining and/or creating data listings, summary table validation, data specifications and/or process data transfers in preparation for statistical review and/or data management audit
  • Participate in the preparation and presentation of data, when applicable
  • Assist in developing means to correct the problems
  • Perform other duties reasonably related to the position as directed by manager

Required education, skills and qualities:

  • University degree in Science, Public Health or related field and IT
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research
  • Strong skills in English and good communication skills
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Vietnamese
  • Working knowledge of medical research database applications
  • Working experience with online data collection and management will be an advantage (ODK, REDCap, etc.)
