Position: Deputy Director

FOUR PAWS Viet is a Vietnamese NGO - partner of FOUR PAWS International, an animal welfare organization founded in 1988 with the Headquarter in Vienna, Austria, and has offices in 14 other countries.

BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh - an animal welfare project by FOUR PAWS, is located in Ky Phu commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province. The sanctuary allows greater governmental enforcement of the existing laws prohibiting the abuse of bears for bile extraction, by providing a place for any confiscated or voluntarily handed over bears to be taken to and cared for appropriately. The 1st construction phase of BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh comprises 3.6 ha and is providing a species-appropriate habitat for up to 44 Asiatic black bears. Four big natural outdoor enclosures, two bear houses, a quarantine area and a veterinary clinic form the frame of BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh. An experienced team, including a veterinarian, currently takes care of 27 former bile bears and 2 bear cubs rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Within the next few years the sanctuary will be expanded to 10 ha and will provide a species-appropriate home for around 100 former bile bears.

Position: Deputy Director (m/f)

Fulltime / BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh, close to Cuc Phuong National Park, Vietnam

Summary/ Objectives: This position reports to and partners closely with the Director to achieve the organization’s mission and vision. The Deputy Director leads organizational effectiveness by managing operational functions of Admin &a HR, Marketing, Visitor Service and Education, and supervises staff and contractors in these areas. The Deputy Director provides strategic direction for tourism development for the sanctuary(s) and is responsible for overall business goals.

Responsibilities:

1. Operation Management

  • Leading and managing on-site operational functions of Admin & HR, Marketing, Visitor Service and Education
  • Overseeing daily operation, planning, quality control.
  • Oversees the negotiation, compliance and administration of contracts with vendors.
  • Working with functional teams to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to optimize operational systems, developing tracking and reporting processes and tools, information flow, business process improvement and organizational planning
  • Improving coordination and communications across the organisation to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Determining ways to reduce costs, increase incomes, and improve overall organisation performance

2. Strategic planning and management

  • Working on strategic plan for business/tourism development in line with FOUR PAWS’ Wild Animal Department strategic plan. Working with other executive colleagues and managers to implement strategic plans and policies. Responsible for overall business goals.
  • Overseeing organisation communications and branding strategies to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Engaging in new project development
  • Engaging in high-level negotiations to generate lucrative contracts or build beneficial relationships with companies and individuals
  • Representing the organisation at conferences, meetings, trade shows and other events
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge and liaising with specialized colleagues and consultants for expert advice on financial, legal, and regulatory issues

3. Overall management of the organisation when the director is on leave.

4. Planning and reporting

  • Weekly and monthly work planning and reporting.
  • Preparing Four Paws Viet annual work plan and budget.

5. Additional duties

  • Supporting foreign staffs in working with Vietnamese people when required.
  • Others as assigned by Four Paws Viet’s Director.

Requirements:

  • Vietnamese national with 10-year experience in business management.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English and Vietnamese.
  • Very good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate people.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related fields. MBA is desirable.
  • Experience in managing service businesses is an advantage.
  • High level of responsibility and personal drive.
  • Willingness to relocate in Ninh Binh is an advantage.
