Deputy Director, Research - South East Asia Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN)

In Vietnam FHI 360 works with the Vietnam Ministry of Health, other ministries, provincial health services, and local non-government organizations to promote the health and well-being of the Vietnamese population, particularly vulnerable and disenfranchised groups. FHI is currently building the capacity of local organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; clinical research for the development of vaccines and drugs for infectious diseases; tobacco control; and laboratory strengthening.

We are currently seeking qualified, experienced and highly motivated candidate for the position of Deputy Director, Research - South East Asia Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam or Bangkok, Thailand

Main duties and responsibilities:
- Provide full scientific and technical support to the SEAICRN Director and deputize for the Network Director as needed.
- Provide scientific and technical support to the SEAICRN Network Steering Committee and Governing Board in the development of research protocols and other scientific initiatives.
- Participate in Network Steering Committee and Governing Board meetings and provide expert guidance as requested on clinical research design, quality implementation topics and other areas associated with SEAICRN interests.
- Assist the Network Director with developing and implementing the strategic agenda of the SEAICRN.
- Lead and direct the setup of Network Operations Centers (NOC) in Thailand and Vietnam ensuring that all systems comply with SEAICRN standards, ICH GCP and NIH requirements.
- Lead the implementation of the sepsis protocol managing a team of research and support staff working under the NOC in Thailand and Vietnam.
- Oversee and coordinate clinical research support and implementation of the sepsis study protocol.
- Lead SEAICRN scientific support activities including protocol development and design, oversight of safety issues and reporting, ethical considerations and other important scientific issues.
- Support the NOCs in designing and implementing quality management systems and metrics to monitor and assure quality.
- Establish systems to evaluate the progress of the sepsis study with associated escalation measures in the event of problems arising.
- Ensure that study deliverables, metrics and budgets are tracked producing reports as required by the study sponsor.
- Assist in or lead the preparation of publications arising from the sepsis study.

Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree or its international equivalent in biological science or public health. MD or Ph.D. preferred. Minimum 8+ years of experience in the field of infectious diseases or clinical research.
- Direct experience leading and implementing clinical research to the standards required by ICH GCP.
- Strong scientific background with direct experience developing research protocols and associated scientific and operational instruments.
- Proven ability and aptitude to lead a team of scientists and research support staff in the conduct of clinical trials according to accepted national and international standards and GCP requirements.
- Demonstrated excellent written, oral communication and leadership skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
- Proven capacity to build clinical research teams either within an organization or within clinical sites particularly in resource-constrained settings.
- Ability to establish and monitor metrics and budgets. Proficiency in English.
- Ability to travel within Asia for up to 50% of the time.
