Deputy Medical Director
Title: Deputy Medical Director
Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Start Date: October 1, 2013
Overall Responsibilities:
The Harvard Medical School AIDS Initiative in Vietnam (HAIVN) seeks an experienced physician and public health specialist to serve as Deputy Director and to lead our Ho Chi Minh City office. The individual will provide technical guidance and coordination for activities associated with the implementation of HAIVN projects in the southern provinces of Vietnam, including HIV clinical mentoring and training, coaching in quality improvement, program monitoring and evaluation and medical education reform. The Deputy Director will serve as a member of the HAIVN management team. He/she will lead the Ho Chi Minh City office, working closely with the Hanoi-based in-country Medical Director and Boston-based Director on implementation of the organization’s objectives.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist HAIVN management team, as well as HAIVN partners in Vietnam, to develop and implement program strategies, work plans, and training activities
- Serve as lead of the Ho Chi Minh City office, responsible for management, administration, strategic planning (with the Medical Director), and implementation of project activities including:
o Providing training, clinical mentoring, and technical assistance in HIV care and treatment to Vietnamese government agencies and to designated clinical sites
o Providing training, coaching, and technical assistance in quality improvement methodology to Vietnamese government agencies and to designated clinical sites
o Supporting the effort to build the training, coaching, and mentoring capacity of local partners
o Providing technical assistance and programmatic monitoring and support to local partners in medical education and curriculum reform
o Mentoring junior investigators in HIV research and building research capacity of local partners
- Serve as liaison between US-based medical education and research collaborators and other Boston-based staff and local partners
- Represent HAIVN at conferences and meetings with Vietnamese government offices/agencies to ensure cooperation, collaboration, and coordination of HAIVN activities.
- Serve as liaison between HCMC- and Hanoi-based HAIVN staff
Reporting: Country Medical Director
Qualifications
- Degree in Medicine or PhD in public health
- Advanced training in Infectious Diseases, HIV or research expertise desirable
- 5-7 years experience in HIV/AIDS-related issues including experience in program planning, budgeting, work plan development, program monitoring and evaluation strongly preferred
- Experience in medical education including training and mentoring preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with all US-based and Vietnam-based project staff, local partners, and donor agencies
- Fluent in written and oral communication skills in both Vietnamese and English
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills
