Development and Communications Director

Position Profile

The Development and Communications Director (DCD) is based in HCMC, Vietnam and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The DCD works with staff from all AIP Foundation offices in order to secure funding for the organization and to nurture a positive public perception of AIP Foundation.

To achieve this, the DCD develops and implements strategic plans to cultivate partnerships, raise funds for the organization, and manages its public image to the highest standards for external communications.

This position is responsible for managing the Development and Communications team, executing training, and ensuring that the team works in line with fundraising and communication strategies and procedures. In addition, the DCD works closely with AIP Foundation’s programs, finance, and monitoring & evaluation teams to ensure the effective proposal development and communication to donors.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of long-term strategic goals and global strategies consistent with the mission of AIP Foundation
  • Conduct, analyze and interpret internal and external research to develop and implement organizational development and communications strategies and annual work plans; ensure efficient implementation of strategies
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with partners and donors to generate revenue and leverage partnerships to greater organizational impact; external representation
  • Identify new potential donors; research and develop plans to access funding from individuals, corporates, foundations and multi-lateral/bi-lateral aid sources
  • Develop proposals to potential donors and partners, including project design, budgeting and grant writing
  • Oversee the various forms of communications within the organization to ensure quality, brand consistency and accuracy; ensure that messages are relevant, consistent and appropriate for the target audience
  • Manage creation, production, and dissemination of AIP Foundation’s global publications and communications materials
  • Manage AIP Foundation’s website and social media accounts, including content creation for social media
  • Coach communications staff in writing and producing presentations and press releases to ensure effective promotion of the organization’s image and work

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in International Development, International Studies, Public Relations, Public Administration or relevant field
  • 10+ years of experience in fundraising, grant writing and partnership development for nonprofit organizations; proven experience with corporate as well as bilateral/multilateral donors
  • 5+ years of management experience required; demonstrated experience in staff supervision and leading a team, including strong coaching and capacity building skills in a diverse and cross-cultural environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; including demonstrated ability to tailor communications to be effective for a range of audiences and purposes; ability to explain and provide accurate yet simple information for complex public health issues
  • Demonstrated interest in international road safety; previous experience and current connections within international road safety field a plus
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to set priorities and organize a challenging and diverse set of responsibilities
  • Strategic thinking and proven track record in business development / resource mobilization with major institutional donors, including fundraising strategy development, donor engagement, and proposal development
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and leading a team, including strong coaching and capacity building skills in a diverse and cross-cultural environment.
  • Understanding and experience in award/grant management, and resolving complex donor compliance and reporting issues, is a plus.
  • Proven track record of a positive, active, strategic and collaborative contribution at a senior level
  • Excellent problem solving, and influencing skills
  • Native English speaker preferred
