Project Summary:

The USAID-funded Vietnam Evaluation, Monitoring, and Survey Services Project is assisting the USAID/Vietnam in designing and implementing various evaluations, monitoring surveys, and performance management studies. This short-term position will support the editing of a variety of reports, desk reviews, and evaluations. Topics covered will range across various sectors, including democracy and governance, education, economic development and monitoring and evaluation.

Position Summary:

MSI/VEMSS requires effective communication with donors, clients, the general public, and the international community. To be effective, many reports, publications, studies and evaluations prepared for USAID and other related agencies need to be available in English. Translated materials often require further editing to meet reporting standards. MSI/VEMSS requires a skilled editor to proofread and edit project reports, and publications prior to client submission. It is expected that assistance will be requested periodically, based on the project’s needs when a new report/publication or other communication materials will be produced. This is a part-time position, with up to five days per month commitment. Candidates based in Hanoi are preferred.

Responsibilities:

Under the immediate supervision of MSI Technical Director and/or VEMSS Chief of Party, the Editor will perform the following tasks:

  • Review, proofread and edit draft reports, publications, evaluations and other project materials taking into account grammar, style, content and format, as per MSI, VEMSS & USAID’s guidelines;
  • Improve phrasing and language use for easier reading;
  • Review and edit branding, ensuring that it is in accordance with MSI and USAID guidelines;
  • Attend meetings between MSI/VEMSS, USAID, implementing partners, as needed to understand the exact needs/objectives of the report, study, publication being done;
  • Work with COP and other project staff on: timelines, tasks, and incorporate feedback;
  • Electronically submit all deliverables to VEMSS within the agreed deadline.

Level of Effort:

This is a part-time position, with up to five days per month commitment.

Qualifications:

  • Native English speaker;
  • Minimum five years of proven experience in editing reports and publications on social issues, health, economics, legal & governance development in English;
  • Advanced degree in journalism, communications, or other related;
  • Working knowledge of the Associated Press (AP) style guide;
  • Knowledge of USAID contractual and reporting requirements and branding guidelines preferred.
