Created 30 years ago, GRET is a professional solidarity and international cooperation association. In Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as in Europe, we work to contribute to sustainable, fair development and alleviate poverty and structural inequalities.
In Vietnam, GRET operates in 6 provinces in mountainous and remote regions since 1989 in the fields of Nutrition, Environment, Value chains and Family Farming and Institutional development of cooperatives.
Funded by European Union for the duration of 3 years, (03/2011 – 03/2014), SYNERGIES “Support Young NGO network to Empower Rural Groups to Integrate Environment in Society” project is aimed at fostering and strengthening local civil societies in mainstreaming the environment in local development agenda. In order to achieve this goal, 3 main components have been designed, respectively focusing on capacity building for local NGOs, piloting environemental friendly and/or sustainable development initiatives and networking/advocacy. In the framework of this project, GRET Vietnam is seeking for a well-qualified and experienced applicant for the position of  ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE:
The Project Officer will assist the project manager to implement the SYNERGIES project activities, specifically related to the components 2 and 3 of the project.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Environmental aspects:
- Support design, implementation and monitoring of environmental development micro projects
- Facilitate the capacity building for local partners and stakeholders especially in environmental and climate change sector
- Participate in developing new ideas related to environment in general and climate change in particular
- Explore and up to date environmental issues at global/national/local level.

Networking/Advocacy:
- Promote the discussion with local authorities, populations in terms of environment issues
- Assist to establish the dialogue with different actors at provincial and national level.
- Actively supporte the maintenance and the development of the Nerad (a network of local NGOs, created with GRET’s support)
- Participate by networking in bridging the project, the Nerad and the project’s partners to networks/working groups at national levels.

Others:
- Support the implementation of the activities of the component “capacity building” as required by PM
- Develop and maintain contacts with all relevant stakeholders including other programme staff, consultants and the partner institution
- Provide support to short-term expert missions.
- Participate to the capitalization and communication of the project results.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Effective date: October  2011
Reports to: Project Manager
Type of contract: Fixed term contract of one (01) year (extendable)
Location: Hanoi office with travels to the fields
Salary: based on GRET’s internal salary calculation schedule and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Female is preferred
- University degree (Environmental sector is appreciated)
- Working experience directly related to natural resource management, environmental management, climate change, forestry and sustainable development
- Good French and/or English (both verbal and written).
- Strong communication, organization and coordination & presentation skills
- Active, ability to work independently, and pay close attention to details.
