Equality Between Women and Men (EWM) Specialist

SOCODEVI, the Société de coopération pour le développement international, is a network of cooperatives and mutuals that share technical expertise and know-how with partners in developing countries in order to create, protect and distribute wealth. SOCODEVI is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation for international development established in Vietnam since 2002.

The Vietnam Cooperative Enterprise Development Project is a newly Project managed by SOCODEVI and financed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Canada.

WORKING PLACE: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with frequent travels in VCED Project provinces (Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan)

DURATION: As of March, 2016, project duration is of 5 years ending on March 2020.

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Project Director and with the support of the Head office EWM Advisor, the EWM Specialist is in charge of EWM issues of an important capacity building project that expect to support five agricultural cooperatives in dairy milk and fruits value chains. This project aims to improve Vietnamese cooperative sector contribution to gender-equitable economic growth and to women and men farmers’ livelihood conditions. To achieve this, VCED Project will work at three different levels:

  1. Establishment and strengthening of sustainable agriculture cooperative enterprises in strategic value chains within the Vietnamese economy to become models of reference for scaling up;
  2. Improvement of productivity and quality of agriculture production in a sustainable manner at the farm (household W/M) level, with value added;
  3. Support the Government and stakeholders of the cooperative sector in the establishment of an enabling environment for the cooperative development.

The EWM Specialist is looking at the integration of equality between women and men within the project team, as well as with beneficiaries and stakeholders. The EWM Specialist is in charge of coordinating all EWM activities, including EWM training activities for staff. EWM Specialist will have to provide guidance to the Project Director and support VCED Project team in the overall EWM approach implementation. EWM Specialist will work in close collaboration with the Canadian EWM Advisor based at the head office in Canada, who will support her/he and provide advices in the implementation of VCED Project EWM strategy.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • In coordination with VCED Project’s Team and Canadian EWM Advisor, implement the EWM strategy and lead its annual updating for the overall project;
  • Contribute at the outset of the project to baseline analysis and organizational diagnostics by supporting the team in integrating a differentiated analysis according to gender and desegregated stats per gender;
  • Support the project team, partners and stakeholders in the dissemination and promotion of VCED Project EWM strategy;
  • Support, advice and accompany the project team in the EWM strategy implementation including monitoring of EWM results, indicators and targets for each project components;
  • Raise awareness and strengthen team, partners and stakeholders capacities in order to work in a EWM perspective, as well as mainstreaming EWM on an ongoing basis, throughout project components;
  • Select, train and coordinate EWM facilitators in charge of carrying out EWM dissemination activities in the field, for the benefit of the farmer households;
  • Coordinate in collaboration with the project team, the design of related tools regarding: training, planning, monitoring and evaluation for EWM mainstreaming;
  • Design with the project team the dissemination and training activities for the partners with regards to EWM stakes liaised with project fields and domains of intervention;
  • Contribute to the redaction of different project documents and reports with the concern that results and challenges in the implementation of the EWM strategy are taken into consideration;
  • Represent VCED Project regarding EWM issues on request of the Project Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

VCED Project’s EWM Specialist will demonstrate knowledge and skills in designing, implementation and monitoring of EWM strategy. EWM Specialist will demonstrate strong abilities in developing and facilitating training for adults in rural area, as well as ensuring the training, monitoring and coordination of a working team. Finally, EWM Specialist will demonstrate strong competencies in the promotion of EWM in the rural areas.

More specifically knowledge and skills expected are:

  • Master degree in social science or other relevant fields with major studies on EWM issues;
  • Knowledge of EWM approaches and strategies;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in EWM field better if liaised with cooperatives, farmers organizations or agriculture;
  • Knowledge and 2 years of experience in the field of program design, action plan, coordination, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Knowledge and 2 years of experience in work team coordination and in the field of training (planning, animation and evaluation);
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in English communication and writing, French will be an asset;
  • Team working capacities;
  • Excellent knowledge and skills of technology information (Windows Office, internet, others);
  • Having appropriate studies on EWM issues with less professional experience or any other mix of more professional experience in EWM field with a lower grade studies may also be considered.
