Main duty station30-40% working time at Save Vietnam’s Wildlife - Cuc Phuong, Ninh Binh and 40-60% at the research sites (Pu Mat National Park – Nghe An, Cat Tien National Park – Dong Nai…)

Introduction to Save Vietnam’s Wildlife

Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW) is a national Non-Profit Organization in Vietnam that was established under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations with a registration license from Ministry of Science and Technology.

Mission statement:Save Vietnam’s Wildlife works to stop the extinction and champion the recovery of threatened species in Vietnam.


  • Delivering effective education programs to empower people to take informed action;

  • Working with Government to effect positive, long-lasting change for wildlife;

  • Rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing confiscated threatened wildlife, and contributing to conservation-breeding programs for globally-threatened species, in support of wild populations;

  • Increasing understanding of conservation requirements of threatened wildlife through rigorous scientific research;

  • Working to secure habitats for wildlife population and reintroduction programs.

Introduction to the recruitment job

As the role of a Field Research Officer, this position will take main responsibility in developing and carrying the researching projects involving the targeted species and   areas SVW is focusing. This position is an exciting opportunity to work at the frontline of conservation for a motivated person who is excited by the idea of spreading the word about Vietnamese conservation and who is looking for experiences in searching, field work activities and project development.

DurationPermanent position candidate should be willing to work with us for a minimum 2 years.

Responsibilities of Field Research Officer

  • Planning, coordinating and carrying the researching projects targeting some specific animal species in Vietnam;

  • Implementing social research activities involving hunting techniques, illegal wildlife trade and people’s attitude toward wildlife animals;

  • Analyzing data and writing reports based on the results from research activities, publishing figures about current population, situation and habitat of the animals SVW is working on;

  • Suggesting strategy from the field and social research results, in order to develop practical plans for our conservation activities;

  • Developing and running training courses for rangers and university students in Vietnam.

Position Criteria

  • Must be Vietnamese; Fluency in both English and Vietnamese;

  • Holding a Master or Bachelor degree from Biology, Environmental Science, Animal Management or similar;

  • Experienced in field research and/ or ecology research;

  • Patient, positive attitude and good adaptation in new environment;

  • Team-work, eager to learn and share knowledge with colleges;

  • Be able to live in isolation and basic living conditions;

  • Acceptance to work in low developed, urban areas, under difficult challenges;

  • Passionate with SVW mission and researching activities;

  • Attention to details, honest and do-it-all attitude;

  • Strong research and analytical background including research in the field;

  • Good organizational and reporting skills;

  • Good interpersonal and team work skills;

  • Ability to cope with pressure/meet deadlines;

  • Willingness to undertake wide and frequent travels;

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, photography or designing software is an advantage.
