The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (www.ciat.cgiar.org) develops technologies, innovative methods, and research-based based solutions in agriculture and the environment, in order to increase prosperity and improve human nutrition in the tropics, and by doing so, help the world secure a sustainable food future. Headquartered near Cali, Colombia, CIAT conducts research for development in tropical regions of Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. CIAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium (www.cgiar.org), a global research partnership for a food secure future. The Center’s research focuses on increasing productivity of key crops (cassava, common bean, rice, and tropical forages), developing sustainable agroecosystems and landscapes, and using information to foster better decisions about issues such as climate resilience and inclusive markets.

The Position

The position supports finance-related functions in CIAT’s Asia regional office, backstopped by the global team in headquarters and other regions. As member of CIAT’s Asia team, he/she works closely with other regional administrative support (RAS) staff. The position reports to the Regional Finance & Administration Coordinator at the Hanoi regional office, and the Financial Planning and Monitoring Manager at CIAT global headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates region-wide financial services support to CIAT Asia including general finance and accounting, banking and fund management, and files and records management.
  • Liaises with HQ Finance Team to fully integrate regional operations in institutional systems for financial management.
  • Assists the Regional Management Team in overall financial management for Asia, including oversight of funds execution for the region.
  • Guides research staff in financial planning and reporting, from proposal development to project completion, for timely delivery and according to contractual obligations/donor guidelines.
  • Supports grants and contracts administration staff in using financial management and budget monitoring tool.
  • Facilitates project and office audits and periodic accounting procedures.
  • Manages general cash flow and prepares periodic requests and reports.
  • Generates and updates budget template for various operational units, in coordination with relevant staff.
  • Contributes to overall optimization of financial and administrative processes for CIAT Asia.

Required and Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant fields. Master’s level studies or additional finance-related professional trainings is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years in accounting, finance and/or project management functions.
  • Excellent level of professional English proficiency, both in writing and speaking.
  • Capacity to work with minimal supervision while demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to perform in a team-based, culturally diverse and international work setting.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work under tight deadlines and extended periods.
  • Openness to continuous learning along with service-oriented work attitude.

Terms of Employment

The position is under the Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) category and limited to applicants with Vietnamese nationality. Contracts are issued and renewed annually, based on performance and availability of resources, including an initial three-month probation period.
