Freelance Finance Professionals

Bread for the World (BftW) is the globally active development and relief agency of the Protestant Churches in Germany. The organization is a member of various national and international networks and works closely with other aid agencies. The Regional BftW Office in Hanoi is supporting local partner organisations in Vietnam and Laos in empowering people to overcome poverty and strive for an inclusive socio-economic development with strong emphasis on biodiversity and environmental protection.

The Regional Office of BfdW in Hanoi is looking for Freelance Finance Professionals
interested to support Vietnamese and Lao civil society and non-profit organisations in managing project funds in compliance with donor terms and conditions as well as national legislation.

Interested financial experts must be available for further BftW training, including on-the-job coaching to get familiar with BftW financial standards and back donor requirements. Only qualified candidates will be suggested to BftW project partner or considered by the Regional Office for advisory services.

Main areas of support in form of training and individual consultancies

  • Financial internal regulatory frameworks and operational guidelines
  • Structures and procedures in the finance department
  • Compliance with national legislation and international donor requirements
  • Internal control system and its implementation and functioning
  • Accounting and bookkeeping, including chart of accounts providing disaggregated information on money flows of co-funded activities
  • Budget planning, budgeting, cash flow management
  • Exchange rate development – local currency and funds approved in foreign currency, e.g. EURO
  • Familiar with national and international procurement requirements
  • Financial reporting in accordance with international donor standards
  • Understanding of audit reports and management letters

Requirements

  • University degree (BA/MA) in business, majoring in accounting and ideally with advanced education as a Certified Internal Auditor
  • User-experience of various accounting programs applied in Vietnam and Laos
  • Highly familiar with Microsoft Excel
  • Good knowledge on international audit standards
  • Sound knowledge of audit standards and international financial donor requirements
  • Familiar with financial management mechanism and instruments of Civil Society Organisations
  • Consultancy and training skills and experience, especially ability to present complex issues in a simple way
  • Intercultural and gender sensitivity
  • Fluent in English, Vietnamese and/or Lao language, German will be an asset
  • Readiness to frequent travel
