Girl-cohort Research Collaborators (2 possition)

RECRUITMENT NOTICE – GIRL COHORT RESEARCH COLLABORATORS

Plan International is a child rights, girls focused organisation working with communities in many countries to alleviate child poverty so that children can realise their full potential. In Vietnam, Plan International has been established since 1993. To date, we have improved the lives of more than 250,000 children with their families and communities in over 100 communes in 11 provinces in Northern and Central Vietnam. Working in partnership with local people, organisations and government bodies at all levels is our core approach to build a better future for children in Vietnam.

The Real Choices, Real Lives cohort study (the “Study”) is an international study following a cohort of 142 girls and their families in nine countries. Each country has a cohort of between 13 and 22 girls, all born between January 1 2006 and December 31 2006. The original plan was to undertake the study until 2015 to coincide with the global MDGs’ target date. Plan originally set up the study in order to bring the analysis and statistics being presented in the organisation’s Because I am a Girl report series to life. The Study is now presented in its own report format and aims to document the social, economic, cultural and institutional variables that influence girls’ lives and their life chances, through the perspectives of girls and their families. The study is gathering qualitative information about the daily realities of girls’ lives and their experiences of both opportunities for change and gender discrimination.

In Vietnam, the Study has been conducted for 12 years in Thai Nguyen and Quang Ngai Province since 2006 with participants of 20 girls.
