Head Interviewer and a Translator/ Interpreter

WWO is a US-based not-for-profit organization working in Vietnam since 2005. The global mission of WWO is to transform the lives of orphaned children and help them to become healthy, independent, productive members of their communities and the world.

They are seeking a qualified Head interviewer and a translator/ interpreter who have experience and knowledge in social work, psychology, and especially in health care related to HIV/AIDS area.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Head Interviewer
This temporary position will require the candidate - conduct and digitally record qualitative interviews of adolescents and their caretakers following an interview protocol, and to supervise and verify the correct transcription of the interviews and the translation of the resulting transcripts in English. The study is an outcomes evaluation of a health intervention, and the candidate will be working with doctoral students from the U.S.

SCOPE OF WORK
- Data Collection/Research
- Conduct digitally recorded interviews with participants (children and adults) as instructed in training and according to a written interview guide.
- Administer consent forms to participate and maintain necessary study records.
- Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
- Translate spoken and written Vietnamese into English and vice versa
- Conduct qualitative interviews of adolescents and their caretakers
- Supervise the transcription and translation of interview recordings.
- Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials.

TIME REQUIREMENT: 8-10 total days of work, 4-5 (approximately 1-2 days per week) between June 20 and July 20, 2012, and 4-5 between October 20 and November 20, 2012.

SELECTIONS CRITERIA / QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience conducting in-depth interviews and conducting qualitative data collection.
- Totally proficient in English and Vietnamese, with understanding of communication in Vietnamese with individuals with low literacy.
- Extensive experience (more than 4 years) translating in the non-profit industry, and working with vulnerable populations.
- Experience working with research projects preferred, with an understanding of confidentiality procedures to protect participants.
- University education completed, masters preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Junior translator/interpreter, questionnaire enumerator for data collection
This temporary position will require the candidate to facilitate communication between study staff (from U.S.) and participants (Vietnamese), and assist in the administration of written questionnaires.  The candidate will also be responsible for transcribing oral interviews into Vietnamese and translating these documents into English. The study is an outcomes evaluation of a health intervention, and the candidate will be working with doctoral students from the U.S.

SCOPE OF WORK:
- Translate spoken and written Vietnamese into English and vice versa
- Facilitate communication between study participants, WWO employees and U.S. evaluation team.
- Transcribe and translate interview recordings.
- Data Collection/Research
- Assist participants in filling out self-administered questionnaires
- Answer questions, provide clarifications, ensure that responses are correctly recorded
- If necessary, administer the questionnaire to participants if that is their preference or limited literacy prevents them from filling it out themselves
- Administer consent forms to participate and maintain necessary study records.
- Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
- Enter data from questionnaires into a computer

TIME REQUIREMENT: 30 total days of work, 15 days between June 20 and July 20 (Three five-day work weeks), 2012, and 15 between October 20 and November 20, 2012.
