From its regional hub in Hanoi, Vietnam, CIAT conducts collaborative research and capacity strengthening in nearly 20 countries across Asia – with over 100 institutional partners ranging from national public-sector research and development agencies, universities, NGOs, private-sector business firms, and regional/international organizations.

The Position

CIAT Asia is looking for a Visiting researcher/Intern (the final appointment will be determined based on qualifications and experience) to support Impact Assessment activities across different research projects implemented by CIAT and partners in Asia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise household and agricultural survey data collection for various impact studies of the Root Tubers and Bananas (RTB) CRP implemented in Southeast Asia
  • Conduct data analysis and report/manuscript writing of various impact assessment studies of the RTB CRP implemented in Southeast Asia
  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare reports and/or manuscripts based on the analysis of the data
  • Contribute to the data analysis and report writing of the impact study on the Consortium of Unfavorable Rice Environments (CURE) in Vietnam.
  • Contribute to research proposal development with an impact assessment component related to CIAT interventions in Southeast Asia
  • Collaborate with researchers in other CIAT research areas working in Southeast Asia

Required Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor degree in Economics; we will accept applications from both recent graduates as well as more experienced research assistants with both Bachelor and Master degrees; a keen interest in agricultural development and related socio-economic issues is needed
  • Experience in applying quantitative methods to large-scale household or agricultural survey data will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Stata software and experience with large datasets. Knowledge of R software is also advantageous. Experience with data analysis using STATA or R in previous work, course work or for theses is highly valued
  • Strong desire to learn and acquire new skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams in a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment

Terms of Employment

This is a nationally recruited position with an initial 6-month Visiting Researcher/Intern contract and can be renewed and upgraded depending on performance. The position will be based at the CIAT Asia regional office in Hanoi, Vietnam. CIAT offers a multicultural, collegial research environment with competitive salary and excellent benefits.
