Project “Building resilience to natural hazards in Central Region, Vietnam”

The Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been implemented over three phases: phase I (October 2015 – June 2017), phase II (July 2017 to September 2018) and currently phase III (March 2019- September 2021). It is implemented through the following consortium partners: American Red Cross (ARC, as lead) working with and through Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC); Catholic Relief Services (CRS); HelpAge International, (HAIV), Plan International (Plan); and Save the Children (SC).  

The project goal is that vulnerable population and local government authorities have increased resilience to natural hazard risks, reducing potential loss of life and assets due to extreme climate events. The project has the following objectives: 1. Local government agencies, mass organization and community based- organizations provide improved support to local communities to mitigate the adverse impacts of natural disasters. 2. Local communities act to prepare for and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters to protect their lives and property. 3. Schools increase disaster preparedness and have effective disaster management system to ensure safety. The project has been implemented in 4 provinces including Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh and Quang Nam.

In order to learn and share the project documentation that include Safe School Framework (SSF) and its guidance on implementation and evaluation, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into local Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) effectively, with relevant stakeholders and the donor, the project is seeking an individual consultant to translate the two mentioned documents.  

Objective

The objective of this assignment is to translate project documents from Vietnamese into English version according to the following specific points:

• To provide written translation service from Vietnamese into English for two project documentation, including 01 report on Safe School Framework and its guidance on implementation and evaluation, and 01 report on DRR into local (SEDP) 
• To ensure high quality and accuracy of the both documents (proofreading and editing) before submission. 
• To ensure accuracy of the terms and terminology used in the documents. 
• To ensure that the translation is written with appropriate style, spelling and grammar checking (US English). 
• To complete the work within the agreed timeline and submit the final translation in soft copy.

Location and official travel involved

The consultant will provide the requested services from his/her home so here is not travel required for this assignment.

Scope of work: Translate two project documents from Vietnamese into English:

• 01 report on Safe School Framework documentation that is estimated about 30 pages. SC will send the Vietnamese version of this report to the consultant
• 01 report on Safe School Framework documentation that is estimated about 20 pages. SC will send the Vietnamese version of this report to the consultant.

Required qualification and experience

• Academic qualification: Hold a bachelor’s degree in English
• Past experience translating project documents related to DRR/ CCA and safe school that would be an advantage. 
• At least three years of experience in English translation, with a special focus on translation of project development documents.
• Ability to deliver translations as per the agreed timeline. 
• Excellent English and Vietnamese writing skills. 

The applicant should send a sample product of a similar document translation from Vietnamese to English.
