Individual/Group National consultant on Clean Charcoal Production Technology Transfer & Consultancy Services

Netherland Development Organization is seeking for an Individual/Group national consultant on Clean Charcoal Production Technology Transfer & Consultancy Services in Thanh Hoa province

The main objective of this work is:

1)    To study, design and transfer clean charcoal production technology which utilise bamboo node to make charcoal. Clean charcoal oven technology is defined as that producing low emissions and high wood to char conversion efficiency of at least 30%.

2)    To assess opportunity to recover wood gases emitted from existing charcoal ovens to improve the energy use efficiency.

The Consultant will be working closely with VFD team in Hanoi. In liaison with the Forest Management Board (MBFP), Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), MBFP and the partnership of organizations lead by Winrock International, the work of the consultancy is:

• To study properties of bamboo residues material used to produce charcoal to assess the opportunity to improve the quality of charcoal;
• To assess the existing bamboo node based charcoal making technology in Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province and study the opportunity to recover wood gases to improve energy use efficiency; design wood gas recovery system to burn in boilers.
• To design a clean bamboo node based charcoal making oven with low emissions and high efficiency (at least 30%); design capacity of 4 tons bamboo nodes per batch
• To conduct and supervise the clean oven construction Quan Hoa & Quan Son districts, Thanh Hoa province and regulate the oven after put into operation to ensure the optimal operation of the oven;
• To transfer this technology to local enterprises/NGOs after successful test, including technical design and operation guideline;
• To produce oven training manual (design and operation) and provide training courses for operation workers/local enterprises;
