Intern – Governance

The Asia Foundation is recruiting for Intern – Governance to work for an initial two months in the Foundation’s office in Hanoi.

The ideal candidate will be a Vietnamese national with a post graduate degree in sociology, public policy, economics, or relevant work experience. The candidates should possess a thorough understanding of legal, social, and economic development issues in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region.

The position requires:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Vietnamese – including the ability to translate between the two languages;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills; 
- Ability and willingness to master new areas, to take the initiative and to work collaboratively;
- Good computer skills.

Desirable:
- A degree from an international university
- Experience working on governance, public policy, economics or community development issues;
- Experience with international development projects and organizations.

Objectives:    To provide administrative assistance and program support for The Asia Foundation (TAF) in implementation of ongoing projects and design of new projects.           

Timeframe:     July 1, 2013 - September 30, 2013. If successful further extension on a short term contract may be a possibility

Responsibilities:    Under the direction of the Program Manager, Governance and supervision/guidance from other Foundation program staff, the intern(s) will provide support in following activities:

- Program management support tasks
- Background research on project program areas
- File program documents, photos, and materials.
- Consolidate and summarize information of activities carried out by local partners, then translate the summary into English.
- Translate documents from English into Vietnamese and vice versa.
- Supporting the Foundation’s staff in organizing events, workshops, and travel arrangements.

The intern will work primarily on the Governance program including supporting programs working with Civil Society Organizations, Vietnamese Business Associations, the National Assembly and Government.
