As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The programme “Flood protection and drainage of medium-sized coastal cities in Vietnam to adapt to climate change” (FPP) aims at the improvement of capacities of public institutions and the urban population to better cope with the increasing frequency and intensity of urban flooding. The programme follows a multi-level approach (national level, province, and city) for capacity development. On national level, the programme will advise the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment to improve the framework for the urban flooding sector policy. There will be a close coordination with the National Steering Committee on Climate Change. On provincial and city level, local authorities such as the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Steering Committee on Climate Change, and the Provincial Steering Committee on Flood Control will be supported to develop action plans to adapt to climate change as well as emergency preparedness plans. On micro level, awareness on climate change and urban flooding will be raised and the local population will be supported to develop and implement small-scale community and household measures to prepare for flooding.

The Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) component of the project, implemented by German Red Cross, aims to reduce the vulnerability and increase the capacity of the local government and the affected communities to better prepare and adapt to flood risks in the two target cities, Quy Nhon and Tuy Hoa.

We are currently looking for a local Intern whose task mainly relates to the foresaid component.

Duty Station: The position will be based in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province
Duration: 6 months

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of communication materials and visibility materials (designing, compiling articles on FPP activities,…)
  • Assist in communication campaigns on awareness raising about DP&R
  • Assist in organizing Disaster Risk Reduction days at school in Quy Nhon city and Tuy Hoa city
  • Support German Red Cross Project Officer in Binh Dinh to communicate and network with the press and media to promote FPP activities
  • Provide translation and interpretation for project team

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant technical discipline
  • Good at using Photoshop and/or video editing software
  • Strong communication skills to interact with different level and multi-sector stakeholders
  • Experienced in producing information, education and communication (IEC) materials such as videos, posters, leaflets…
  • Creative and good organizational skills
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Vietnamese for various types of audience
  • Interest in participatory approaches as well as working with government and non-government officials as well as communities
  • Basic understanding of disaster risk management and climate change adaptation
