Intern for CCIC

1. Rationale

Winrock International, an international not for profit organization, is seeking applications for intern positions for the USAID-funded Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program which provides technical support for Vietnamese Government and communities to respond to long-term climate change challenges and opportunities.

Winrock International is seeking for a national intern to support the development of pilot modular Climate Change Information Center (CCIC) and web-based portal.

The CCICs will house climate change information as it pertains to Vietnam and the specific province. The CCICs will include materials and tools for:

  • Raising awareness, academic and professional training curriculum on climate change
  • Addressing long-term climate change adaptation challenges in diverse economic and social sectors
  • Incorporating climate considerations into district and provincial planning processes
  • Low emissions and green-growth climate finance opportunities
  • Alternative energy
  • Climate-smart agriculture and livelihood strategies

2. Scope of work

The Intern, undergraduate or graduate students, will be providing support to:

1. Searching and collecting materials related to the above topics from different sources, including but not limited to:

  • Printed materials (books, magazines, reports, leaflets, brochures, posters, etc.)
  • Audio and video (CD/DVDs)
  • Other creative tools (game boards on climate change for children, etc.)

2. Cataloguing and digitizing the collected materials
3. Assisting other tasks as requested during the development of CCIC

The Intern will be working full time (preferably), or part time (optional). The Interns will receive daily/monthly internship allowance. The assignment will last 6 months (expected starting date from late May 2014) and extend, given upon the work requirement and performance.

3. Supervision and Coordination

Intern will work under the supervision of and report to Communications Specialist.

4. Specific duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct desk study of available data and documents
  • In charge of collecting available materials in forms of soft and hard copies, from
  • Program partners, other organization, and publishers, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of methods and best practices for cataloging and digitizing the collected materials
  • In charge of organizing and archiving hard copy materials
  • Support other tasks related to the development of CCIC, as requested
  • Willingness to travel to province during survey, and CCIC design and set up periods (around 20% of the time)

5. Required qualification and experience

  • Degree (completed or underway) in library science, social science or related fields
  • Experience working in a library or an archive
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency using the internet and familiarity with cataloging tools
  • Good writing and speaking communication skills in both Vietnamese and English
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Organized, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to think creatively and come up with resourceful ideas and solutions
