Intern - Flood Proofing Project

As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We work in a variety of fields and support our cooperation partners in designing strategies and meeting their policy goals. GIZ has been working in Viet Nam for more than 20 years. On behalf of the German Government, GIZ provides advisory services to the Government of Viet Nam and is currently engaged in three priority areas: 1) Vocational training; 2) Environmental policy and sustainable natural resource use; 3) Energy

The programme “Flood protection and drainage of medium-sized coastal cities in Vietnam to adapt to climate change” (FPP) aims at the improvement of capacities of public institutions and the urban population to better cope with the increasing frequency and intensity of urban flooding. The programme follows a multi-level approach (national level, province, and city) for capacity development.

As part of the urban flood-proofing the project’s purpose is to review and provide climate-proof drainage plans for, and aligned with, the three partner cities. The drainage plans are to be prepared for specified planning areas in these cities. The drainage planning approach applied is built on hydrodynamic modelling of existing and to be built drainage networks. The hydrodynamic models allow analysis of the performance and help to identify the problems within the system, as well as define measures to mitigate urban inundations. In addition, the models are the principal tools for carrying out Capacity Development programs for the local authorities in the three partner cities Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, and Soc Trang, and for the cities of Nha Trang and Quang Ngai.

GIZ is currently looking for a local Intern who would have assignments mainly relate to IGIP - the international consultant for drainage and capacity development activities of GIZ FPP project.
