SNV Vietnam is looking for an intern as part of the Renewable Energy team working in the project “Sowing the seed of change: Community based Climate change mitigation through sustainable rice production”. One of the 4 project components is to utilize rice residues for renewable energy production and reduce greenhouse gas emission. Different renewable energy technologies and biomass conversion technologies will be studied and considered in this project. The study will cover all technical, social and economic aspects of the technologies. The intern will have chance to work with an intercultural team at SNV and different technology developers in the field of renewable energy in general and biomass in particular. The internship also offers wide range of knowledge in renewable energy which links also to environmental issues and climate change. 

Intern Position

The intern is expected to perform the following tasks:

- Work under direct supervision of the RE Advisor in the project
- Study renewable energy technologies for rice residues
- Assess rice residue resources in different areas of Vietnam
- Study of gasification technologies and biomass conversion technologies
- Carry the tests for different gasifier stoves
- Carry field surveys of gasifier stove users in the project areas (Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces)
- Support SNV advisors in conducting social study and workshops in the field
- Collect information and document the data of other renewable energy and biomass conversion technologies for rice residues.
- Admin support if required.

The intern must meet the following skills and qualifications:

- Vietnamese citizen
- Holding a University degree with a background relevant to mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, energy related engineering, industrial design, energy science, environmental engineering, or relevant disciplines
- Interest in fighting energy poverty and contributing to rural development
- Interest in hand-on work and field jobs
- Experience in academic research would be preferred
- Good English skills (in reading technical documents and drafting reports)
- Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, AutoCad
- Experience with biomass/gasification/industrial thermal application/improved stoves will be an asset.

The intern should possess the following competencies:

- Results-oriented, responsibility, able to work independently
- Respect for diversity, ability to work in teams, communication, creativity and commitment to continuous learning
- Willingness to travel within Vietnam
