International Consultant for JSDF Program (period August 2011 – January 2012)

The project "Improving quality basic education for ethnic minority children in three disadvantaged provinces in Vietnam” is a joint project of the Save the Children and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training (Department of the Ethnic minority education as the lead agency) in the three provinces of Yen Bai, Quang Tri and Dien Bien. The project is funded by a grant from the Japanese Social Development Fund (JSDF Grant No. TF093411), a trust fund managed by the World Bank. The total grant is USD1,809,000. The overall objective of the project is to assist the government of Vietnam in supporting children aged 5–14 from ethnic minority communities in three provinces of Vietnam to complete a quality primary education and continue their education in lower secondary school.
Vacancy: International Consultant for JSDF Program (period August 2011 – January 2012)
The project is looking for an international consultant to develop an in-service capacity building package for primary teachers to help them boost minority ethnic children's learning, despite not being able to use children’s mother tongue.
Main Responsibilities
In close consultation and cooperation with Save the Children staff, the main tasks of this consultant are the followings:
1. Provide training for Save the Children’s staff and local partners on techniques in teaching Vietnamese as second language for ethnic children (the focus areas are described in the TOR)
2. Develop teacher capacity building manual basing on the content of the training.
Key Competencies:
- Proven teaching qualification
- Primary teaching experience
- Experience in bilingual education and mother tongue development programmes in Asia
- Experience of designing teacher training & development packages
- Experience of teaching second language to children
- Experience of teaching through the medium of second language
- Excellent written and spoken English language
- Strong communication, facilitation and teamwork skills
