Internship at AAV

Position: Program Intern
Contract duration: 6 months from Aug 2013 - Feb 2014

Supervisor: Reports directly to Program Manager

Duration of the contract: 6 months – fixed term with possibility of extension

Key working relationship: All AAV staff and Partners

Commencement date: As soon as possible

Working time: Intern is requested to work full time but not over 8 hours/day

Allowance: Following the AAV’s cost norms

General Context

Founded in the United Kingdom in 1972, ActionAid (AAI) is a unique international organization, working with over 25 million people in more than 40 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice.

ActionAid started working in Vietnam since 1989, established its Representative Office in Hanoi in 1992. Since then, it has been focusing the work to end poverty and promote sustainable development in mountainous, remote and difficult regions as well as poor urban areas across Vietnam. ActionAid works in partnership with local partners in different provinces and applies Human Rights Based Approach to its entire works.

AAV is currently operating under the framework of its CSP V (2012 – 2017), focusing in five Program Priorities (PP), including: (1) Promote alternative livelihoods and sustainable agriculture; (2) Advance accountability and people-to-people solidarity for social change, increase youth leadership and civil society credibility; (3) Promote equal access to quality education for children; (4) Respond to disaster and climate change impacts with people-centered alternatives; (5) Build social and political alternatives for women and girls. Each PP is being at both Local Right Program (LRP) and at national level with technical support from the program Technical Advisors (TA), including TA1+4 related to PP1 & PP4, TA 2 was responsible for PP2  and TA3+5 was responsible for education and women rights.

In addition, under Key Change Promise number 1 - Securing Women's Land Rights (it falls into AAV PP1), AAV has committed to take part in the initiative of Land Grab Campaign as the active role. At the beginning, TA1+4 was assigned to coordinate the implementation of the Land Grab campaign and since this position was vacant, it has been temporally responsible by the Program Manager.

To accelerate and provide technical support to LRPs on the areas of Sustainable Agriculture, DRR and Climate Change together with the implementation of the Land Grab campaign, the program needs to recruit an intern to assist the program in PP1&4.

Key tasks

1.Provide general support to the Program Manager in his acting roles as Technical Advisor in PP1&4

- Support on collecting and summarising information from POs and other relevant staff on PP1&4 on monthly basis as inputs for Country Program updates.
- Support on data and information collection for M&E purposes under PP1&4
- Record and keep updates on technical and coordination issues at international, national and LRP levels related to PP1&4
- Assist in program meeting. workshop and other events regarding PP1&4 and monitor the follow-up actions

2. Specific support on implementation of Land campaign.

- Meeting arrangement
- Partner contacts
- Follow up actions
- Technical assistance in land policy research
- Record and update Program Manager on international issues of the Land Campaign
- Translate related documents with quality and within deadline
- Participate in and drafting minutes for some technical meeting as required

3. Other tasks as assigned by Line Manager

Qualification/ Capacity of the Intern

- Highly motivated, undergraduate or recent graduate in good academic standing and with a strong interest with background in Agro-economy, Land Management, Natural Resources Management, DRR or other related fields 
- Well communicating and writing in Vietnamese and English
- Have ability to analyze data and ensure security requirements
- Commitment to work in AAV, giving priority to those who have worked in AAV

Interest

ActionAid International Vietnam will write reviews and acknowledge on the collaboration with AAV for the intern who met the requirements of AAV in a three-month period of working as their request to apply to other organizations.

Responsibility

Follows all instructions of related AAV policies & procedures, ensure quality of work. The intern, who cannot meet the deadlines and quality requirements, can be responsible for compensation or be terminated by AAV.
