To support Paz y Desarrollo Hanoi Office in the implementation of the Hanh Trinh Yeu Thuong (The Love Journey): Danang Schools-based Gender Equity and Primary Prevention of Gender-based Violence Project under the program “Regional program for the promotion of political participation with gender equality in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Philippines, Timor Leste, and Vietnam” in Vietnam.

Background
Paz y Desarrollo (PyD) is a Spanish international independent nonprofit organization with neither religious nor political affiliation, founded in the year 1991 in Córdoba (Spain).

Paz y Desarrollo established a Regional Office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2009 to coordinate and support the work carried out by all its Country Offices in Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Philippines, Timor Leste and Vietnam.

Paz y Desarrollo started to work in Vietnam in 2008 with fund from the Spanish Agency of International Development Cooperation (AECID). Paz y Desarrollo is the organisation that jointly manages The Love Journey (Hanh Trinh Yeu Thuong): Danang Schools-based Gender Equity and Gender Violence Prevention Project with the Danang Department of Education and Training. The objective of the project, the first school-based prevention initiative, is to prevent gender-based violence before it occurs. Paz y Desarrollo is doing this through a primary prevention strategy by encouraging gender equitable attitudes among boys and girls, promoting critical reflection on harmful gender stereotypes and building key relationship and life skills.

The Love Journey’s violence prevention curriculum has been adapted from the Gender Equity Movement in Schools project from the International Centre for Research on Women (India).  This set of training materials is now being piloted in ten Danang secondary schools with preadolescent boys and girls (11-14 years of age).

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Intern will undertake the following tasks:

I.Provide administrative assistance: 60%

- Provide regular verbal and written translation (English – Vietnamese, Vietnamese – English);
- Maintain soft-copy and hard-copy filing;
- Support with travel liquidations, purchase requests, contracts and car bookings;
- Arrange meetings for Project Manager;
- Maintain project gmail account and forward emails to responsible Project Officer;
- Other tasks assigned by the Project Coordinator.

II.Provide assistance to the M&E Officer: 40%

- Assist with analysis quantitative data to assess program performance;
- Assist with conduct research;
- Assist with writing and editing reports and memos to make quantitative and qualitative data easily understandable to general audiences;
- Assist with data management, cleaning of data, and quality control.

Competencies

- Excellent communication skills in English and Vietnamese.
- Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web-based management systems required.
- Good understanding of project administration.
- Familiarity of Epidata and SPSS.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

- University degree in foreign language (English or Spanish), puplic health, social sciences or other relevant fields.

Experience:

- Previous working experience with international NGO is an asset.

Skills:

- Flexibility and adaptability with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and synthesis capacities are required.
- Maturity of judgement, tact, integrity and discretion.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and to maintain flexibility in working hours; Punctual.
- Stress and time management skills, can work under pressure.

Language Requirements:

- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and writing English and Vietnamese, and capability to translate both languages required.

Criteria

- Extensive experience as intern or volunteer in International NGO. (30%)
- Proven experience in administrative and research work. (50%)
- Good communication skills in English. (20%)

Working conditions

A 6 month assignment which is extendable depending on satisfactory performance. The gross allowance will be 3,000,000VND (three million dongs) per month.

The Intern is expected to work full time. S/he will be entitled to ten (10) days of vacation leave with pay or proportion thereof for six month of assignment. Annual or vacation leave must be approved at least one week in advance. No compensatory leave is paid if the intern does not take full leave of ten days. Unless otherwise specified, PyD will observe the same public holidays as those prescribed by the Vietnamese Government.
