IT and Support Officer

The British Embassy in Hanoi is part of a world-wide network of 230 Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) missions representing British political, economic, trade and consular interests overseas. The Department for International Development is the British government department responsible for promoting development and the reduction of poverty. We are currently looking to recruit an IT and Support Officer to join our team to look after a range of IT and technical systems and offer wider support.

Main Duties

IT Support Officer for official Embassy systems

•    Be the site contact for Firecrest (official Embassy IT system) user and helpdesk support
•    Be the site contact for IP desk phones user and helpdesk support
•    Produce IT guidance to help staff undertake self service for routine IT and telephone tasks
•    Be the technical lead for SharePoint country site and local intranet site
•    Manage Embassy IT change and project work when required
•    Offer support, including video conferencing and audio-visual elements of events, to colleagues
•    Distribute FCO IT processes and procedures guidance

Manger of FCO Standalone Network
•    Administration and maintenance of standalone computer servers, desktops and laptops
•    Maintain network infrastructure and Internet connectivity

IT Support Officer for Department for International Development (DFID)

•    Provide support, assistance and updates as necessary to the Information Systems (IS) Regional Manager to include such things as roll-out of new systems, unresolved or pending issues, and IT section of the Business Continuity Plan
•    Report to DFID’s IS service desk any faults in the communication links
•    Provide hardware and software support, which includes proactively liaising with DFID’s service desk
•    Provide support to remote workers and fixed desk users, including basic IT training if necessary
•    Ensure relevant DFID IT security guidance is adhered to and report immediately any abuse of DFID network to relevant IS colleagues in DFID

Management of resources and budgets

•    Manage IT equipment and maintenance budget
•    Review and procure necessary Firecrest and standalone hardware and peripherals
•    Manage mobile phones and Statement of Responsibility forms

Other support Work

•    Site contact for other operational issues and co-ordinate necessary work
•    Communication and lead on logistics for visits of regional technical support
•    Management of inward and outward Diplomatic Bags
•    Passport and Vignette Custodian
•    Out of hours duty phone Coordinator

Security

•    Radio Network maintenance
•    Ensure that correct Technical Security Rules are being followed in the Embassy and Chancery area (Mobile Phone and Laptop use by Visitors)

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

•    Comfortable working with range of IT and technology
•    Ability to learn and to work on IT (hardware, software and services) in a multicultural organisation.
•    The role requires someone with initiative and the ability to work with minimum supervision
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills
•    Excellent written and spoken English
•    Knowledge of IT applications and MS Windows
•    Excellent problem solving and customer service skills

Due to the nature of the work of this specific role, and in order to meet security vetting requirements, you must be a national of one of the following: United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, United States, and EU. You should also be willing to undertake an extensive security check into your background.
