Junior Advisor

SNV Vietnam is looking for a Junior Advisor, based in Hanoi with frequent travel to other provinces  (National consultancy contract)

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.

SNV is engaged in the agriculture sector implementing Value Chain, Inclusive Business and Climate Change adaption and mitigation activities.  SNV is currently implementing two projects namely Spice of life: Leveraging the spice sector for poverty reduction amongst ethnic minority communities in Northern Vietnam” and the project to “Develop High Quality Tea Value Chains for Poverty Reduction amongst Ethnic Minorities in Northern Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar” initiated and under the MARP programme, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The overall goal of Spice of Life project is to “Improve the livelihoods of ethnic minority groups who rely on Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) as spices in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam by increasing the income derived from NTFP spices by enabling their market access and linkages” and for ShanTea project is to “Improve livelihood sustainably for ethnic minority tea producers in Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang through well-developed Shan Tea value chains”.

SNV Vietnam is seeking a highly qualified national candidate to fill in the post of Junior Advisor.

Assignment of Projects: Spice of Life, Shan Tea (if required by Project Manager)

Key of working areas:

Monitoring & Evaluation:

• Traveling to the field to provide any necessary supports to ensure smooth performance of farmer groups (FIG);
• Support M&E officer to maintain and update project records in the MfR systems and provide regular reports to project managers, Business Development Unit and agriculture team on project progress as requested and scheduled;
• Support M&E officer to coordinate revision of the project implementation plan with key stakeholders to ensure an updated and shared understanding of the plan and information needs;
• Support to revise the M&E plan and system by seeking stakeholder inputs in order to produce these plans with the full commitment of all the organizations involved in the project;
• Contribute to program reporting and documenting in line with program and SNV strategy and development plan;

Knowledge Management:

• Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant curriculum, technology, marketing, and/or systems;
• Collect and use analyzing data soft wares to support for the organization’s proposals, reports;
• Gather data on FIGs and lesson-learnt of action to improve project implementation.
• Other duties as required and may include but not limited to supporting advocacy and communications efforts, supporting/leading internal review activities, supporting project implementation activities.

Candidate profile

• Vietnamese citizen
• Bachelor degree majoring in development economics, agriculture/ business development or other relevant disciplines;
• At least 1 years of relevant working experience with NGOs;
• Willingness to travel to project field sites on a regular basis;
• The following points are advantages:
• Experience in working with private sector (i.e. agribusiness, traders, food processors, other related);
• Working experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis
• Experience with and expertise in relevant development approaches (e.g. Participatory Rural Appraisal; Methodology of Participatory Assessment skills);
• Familiarity with quantitative analysis soft wares (i.e. STATA, SPSS, ArcGIS);
• Sound knowledge and experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects as well as gender and social inclusion;
• Experience in working with stakeholders at all levels (provincial, district, commune), and with mass organizations;
• Knowledge of and experience with methods and techniques of value chain analysis, sub sector market analysis and market
• Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email).

Reporting: This position will support for three project’s team, not only one single project and reporting directly to managers of three above projects

Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers 110 days LCB in 6 months contract with the possibility of extension.
