Junior Project Officer (JPO) in Aquaculture “i4Ag”

The project “Improved water cycle systems for sustainable fisheries production in aquaculture” (i4Ag) (2021-2026) is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It aims to test innovations that have the potential to make local shrimp value chains more efficient and sustainable in order to increase incomes, secure jobs and improve environmental sustainability. The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The project is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Junior Project Officer (JPO) in Aquaculture“i4Ag”

Duty Station: Ha Noi Office, Viet Nam

Duration: ASAP until 30 July 2026

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and coordinating project activities, timelines, and milestones.
  • Support the Project Manager and senior staff in implementing project objectives and activities.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor and analyze data to support project field trial activities.
  • Draft reports, summaries, and updates on project progress for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare presentation materials and support the communication of project outcomes to partners.
  • Support the coordination with local and national stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Support the coordination and collaboration with the private sector.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, training, and meetings.
  • Assist M&E of project activities.

Main tasks:

  • Provide highest-quality technical monitoring of the project innovation trials on improving water quality and preventing disease in shrimp production;
  • Perform a variety of tasks required for pilot models under the project, especially applying pond oxygenation & dissolved oxygen related to disease prevention in shrimp production;
  • Work closely with private sector partners and Can Tho University to monitor and evaluate the practical testing of the “active oxygen” solutions in shrimp farms; 
  • Provide basic technical support to aquaculture farmers, assisting them in adopting sustainable practices;
  • Work with technical teams on setting up trials, tests, or pilot projects;
  • Organize, compile, and manage project data in databases and spreadsheets;
  • Ensure data is collected accurately and systematically for analysis;
  • Ensure all information and data records for the monitoring and evaluation of the project; 
  • Draft terms of reference and recruit short-term service providers;
  • Assist in promoting awareness about sustainable aquaculture practices within local communities;
  • Gather feedback from stakeholders to inform project improvements;
  • Builds a network to relevant stakeholders, partners and the project team;
  • Maintain a good flow of communication and information between all involved stakeholders;
  • Provide other support if required.

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree in aquaculture, environment science, biotechnology, water management or other relevant fields;
  • At least 2 years practical experience in related fields of water management;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of water management, shrimp aquaculture, waste treatment in aquaculture;
  • Knowledgeable on impact of climate change, smart aquaculture, sustainable use of natural resources at community level, coastal ecosystems;
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well in a team;
  • Experience working in the Mekong Delta is a strong asset;
  • Very strong knowledge of data monitoring, qualitative and quantitative analysis and reporting;
  • Very good skills in English language, in speaking, reading and (report) writing,proficiency in MS Office.
