The project “3RproMar (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs)” is a technical cooperation program, jointly funded by the governments of Viet Nam and Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Its objective is to support the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states in the improvement of implementation capacities for reducing land-based waste leakage to protect the seas. The project outcome includes four output areas: enhance the regional cooperation and knowledge management among the ASEAN working groups, develop national measures for waste leakage reduction within the focal ASEAN member states (Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Viet Nam) as well as their transmission to strategies on local level, involve the private sector to develop approaches for waste leakage reduction along the value chain and implementation of pilot projects in selected municipalities.

The global project CSI and the 3RProMar project are looking for a qualified local senior professional for the position of:

Junior Project Officer “3RProMar”
Duty station: Hanoi, Vietnam
Duration: ASAP until 30th June 2024

The Junior Project Officer will support the project with technical knowledge and will be responsible for contributing towards the achievement of the program’s contractual targets in Vietnam. He/she will do everything possible to ensure that the country-specific program targets are met.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assists with general project implementation, coordination of project activities, and monitoring and evaluation, communication, and documentation;
  • Supports the mobilization of stakeholders (public, private, civil society, informal sector);
  • Supports to formulate terms of reference and monitoring results of external consultants for selected research studies, workshops and/or training events;
  • Supports the design, preparation, and organization of technical workshops as well as high-level events (in-person and virtual) and other activities on waste prevention and management as well as sustainable (plastics) value chains and the reduction of waste leakage from land-based sources;
  • Supports in preparing appropriate input, confirmation of data for various project reports including annual reports and contributes to the other reports required by GIZ Head Office;
  • Documents the entire process in the project to become knowledge product and supports for knowledge transfer;
  • Drafts reports and presentation documents;
  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the project leader;
  • Supports background research within the project context.

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree in the fields of environmental science, sustainable development, waste management, marine protection;
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating trainings and workshops; proven experience in network management;
  • Experience in writing reports, presentations related environmental and development issues;
  • Multicultural experience in working and learning;
  • Detail-oriented, result-oriented and willingness to travel to remote areas;
  • Good knowledge of relevant stakeholders in the sector required, knowledge of the international framework and good practices on the topic is an asset;
  • Knowledge and experiences on waste recycling, extended producer responsibility, circular economy and environmental issues of Mekong Delta will be an asset;
  • Excellent spoken and written Vietnamese, complete fluency in English (spoken and written);
  • Experience in communication campaigns and in designing environmental messages and activities; knowledge of local information distribution channels (TV, radio, papers, websites, social media, etc.) would be beneficial;
  • Experience with GIZ is a plus.
