Laboratory Coordinator
The Vietnam National Lung Hospital seeks to recruit a Laboratory Project Coordinator under the ADRESSING TB CONTROL AND LUNG HEALTH ACTIVITIES THROUGH VIETNAM LUNG HOSPITAL Project funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The position will be based in Ha Noi with travel throughout the country.
Project background:
The Vietnam National Lung Hospital (VNLH) and the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP), under the Ministry of Health, are responsible for coordinating and managing national and external resources to support TB control activities in Vietnam. The Project “Adressing TB Control and Lung Health Activities through Vietnam Lung Hospital” was developed in response to funding opportunity No. CDC-RFA-PS11-1110 and CDC-RFA-PS-11-004 of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Project, comprising a research and a non-research cooperative agreement (Coag), aims to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention and control and lung health programs in Vietnam.
Project Implementation Strategy:
Non-research Coag:
- Implementating Public Private Mix DOTS (PPMD) model at provincial hospitals.
- Supporting the community network in remote and mountainous areas for TB detection and management.
- Developing lab capacity and service networks.
- Supporting the Vietnam Stop TB Partnership (VSTP).
Research Coag:
- Evaluating an evidence- based approach to screening for tuberculosis disease among people living with HIV
- Evaluating TB Infection Control Intervention in Healthcare Facilities in Vietnam

Job description:
- The Lab Coordinator will report to VNHL/NTP Lab Chief and be responsible to the Project Director. The incumbent will assist VNHL/NTP in planning, managing and coordinating lab-related activities, including activities under CDC’s Coags and other activities to support the implementation of VNHL/NTP’s 5 years Strategic Plan for TB Laboratory Network.
- Act as a Lab primary focal point in the implementation of CDC’s Coags and is responsible for liaising within VNTP/NHL and between CDC and VNTP regarding lab-related matters. Liase with other national and international partners in activities to to strengthen TB Lab network.
- Prepare guiding documents for lab activities. This will include:
- Developing and updating monthly, quarterly and annual lab work plans in accordance with targets of the project. Work plans should be developed based on coordinating with other project coordinators under the direction of the Lab Chief and Project Director.
- Preparing estimated detailed budgets for lab activities, in accordance with the directions of the CoAg.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly and/or yearly reports on implementation of lab activities as per requirements of the Coags.
Act as a primary lead to ensure lab activities are carried out in accordance with the work plans. This will include:
- Providing documents, templates, guidance, and other project support to the VNHL/NTP’s Lab team in implementing project activities.
- Coordinating and following up on lab project activities in accordance with the Project Agreement and work plans between CDC and VNHL/NTP.
- Integrate recommendations and guidance from Lab Technical Working Group for activities under the CDC-VNLH/NTP CoAg. Conduct other technical activities assigned by the project management committee.Coordinate with technical officers to monitor the provision of technical inputs by consultants.
- Represent the Lab Chief and Project Director at meetings with partners, when assigned.
Qualifications: Education, working experience, languages and skills:
All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
a) Minimum Master’s degree in Microbiology or related fields is required.
b) Must have at least three to five years’ experience on working in a TB Lab. Experience working in a TB control program at regional or national level is an added advantage.
c) Must have thorough knowledge of the TB Laboratory Quality Management System.
d) Knowledge of organizational and operational concepts and practices applied by public, private, or non-profit agencies and organizations engaged in health related endeavors, especially related with TB is required.
e) Knowledge of project management tools and experience with project planning, coordination and implementation is required.
f) Strong coordination, communication and professional interpersonal skills are required.
g) Strong computer skills, including use of Excel and Powerpoint are essential. Ability to generate, organize and analyze data is essential.
h) Good command of speaking/reading/writing in both Vietnamese and English is required (this will be tested).
Salary and other benefits: 10,245 US$/year (gross salary+social and health insurance)
