Long Term Expert – Challenge Fund Experts – Team Leaders and Fund Management Advisors

Clients include international development agencies, international lending institutions, private corporations and philanthropies, and host-country governments.

Background:
In anticipation of future work with European donors, DAI is looking to build a strong pool of individuals with expertise in challenge funds. We are seeking long- and short-term experts who have designed and implemented challenge funds as a tool to develop innovative business models that deliver both commercial benefits for the private sector and developmental benefits for poor people, in terms of job creation, income improvements and availability of more affordable goods and services.

Highlighted areas of expertise – Team Leaders:
- Track record of managing and advising donor programmes
- Strong project management and team management experience
- Expertise in designing and implementing challenge fund programmes
- Solid understanding of inclusive business and social entrepreneurship, particularly in the areas of agriculture, renewable energy and infrastructure
- Experience developing and rolling out marketing and dissemination strategies
- Experience working with DFID, SIDA, AusAid or other similar donors
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and/or Southeast Asia
- Proven ability to work with multi-stakeholder groups
- Highlighted areas of expertise – Fund Management Advisors:
- Strong grants management skills with a focus on challenge funds
- Solid track record of setting up policies, processes and operating procedures for managing challenge funds
- Experience raising awareness and catalysing pro-poor sustainable business ideas amongst private sector actors and helping develop a healthy pipeline of applications
- Expertise in assessing, performing due diligence and selecting innovative and inclusive business models
- Experience undertaking financial and operational monitoring of grantees
- Experience working with DFID, SIDA, AusAid or other similar donors
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and/or Southeast Asia
