The Vietnam country office is committed to respond to community health needs in Vietnam and works in such areas as reproductive, maternal, and child health, TB, HIV, vaccines and immunization, emerging and epidemic diseases, and health technologies. To achieve impact, PATH Viet Nam works across the public and private sectors and focuses on sustainable, system-level changes.

PATH is implementing a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project entitled Healthy Markets Activity with an overall goal to grow a viable commercial market for HIV related goods and services – such as condoms, HIV testing and counseling and sterile needles and syringes – that is capable of meeting the needs of populations facing the greatest risks. The expected program will include a network of complementary partners to bring about changes that result in strengthened local leadership and capacity for comprehensive and effective programming and social marketing of critical HIV goods and services.

PATH is seeking a Marketing & Communications Specialist, based in Ha Noi, Vietnam. The Marketing & Communications Specialist will be responsible for providing technical and programmatic support for communications initiatives promoting HIV prevention and treatment, healthy behaviors, and demand creation for quality HIV products and services. Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of HIV marketing and behavior change communication (BCC) activities, with a focus on impacting vulnerable populations;
  • Contribute to the development of effective behavior change strategies and tools, including branding and market segmentation strategies, media campaigns and training materials, counseling tools, job aids, etc., to support HIV prevention activities;
  • Support development of guidelines and policies that will facilitate the implementation and adoption of healthy behaviors related to demand for HIV products and services;
  • Mobilize social and political support at all levels to create and sustain an enabling environment for the delivery of key interventions;
  • Assist in the implementation of capacity-building to increase the effectiveness of government and private-sector stakeholders to lead state-of-the art HIV communication and marketing programming in the future;
  • Provide technical assistance in BCC and social marketing approaches to local partners for implementation, including developing training curricula and manuals, guidelines, and informational materials as needed;
  • Support to coordinate Healthy Markets Activity partners for effective implementation of project activities;
  • Stay current with the latest technical knowledge and programming experience in BCC and social marketing related to HIV, and incorporate the latest research and programming into program and communications strategies.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated skills in communications strategy development, marketing, and/or social marketing, preferably in the health sector and in developing country context;
  • Understanding of the Vietnamese HIV/AIDS epidemic, including sociocultural issues and nuances of working with vulnerable populations;
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with government and the private sector in Viet Nam or similar context;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in a complex international environment;
  • Well-organized and able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities;
  • Competence in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as communication technology for behavior change;
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills;
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and English to include reading, speaking and writing.

Required Experience

  • Advanced degree in business, marketing, public health, social sciences, communications, or a related field, and at least five years' experience designing, managing, and/or evaluating culturally-sensitive behavior change components of health (preferably HIV) programs in Vietnam or Southeast Asia;
  • Demonstrated experience in demand creation and behavior change programming related to health seeking behaviors;
  • Demonstrated track record of working closely with the public and private sectors;
  • Demonstrated experience in interpersonal and mass media communications.
