BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

This is a professional locally employed staff (LES) position that will act as a senior advisor to the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit INDO PACIFIC (NAMRU-IP) Hanoi Director.  Incumbent of this position will provide analysis, information, advice, and recommendations reflecting the Vietnamese and U.S. Governments’ (USG) positions for achieving and development, initiation, and completion of biomedical research protocols.  The position will require the ability to effectively interact with Vietnam’s Government, public health institutions, and institutions of higher education on biomedical research and technical advancements.  The incumbent will be required to have experience and an extensive knowledge of research strategies and a broad knowledge of U.S. biomedical research requirements.  The incumbent will be an expert in the Vietnamese health sector particularly regarding government policy and regulation on biomedical research, development assistance and be accepted within the highest circles of government and research institutions.  The incumbent will be responsible for developing protocols and plans for research relevant to NAMRU-IP’s infectious disease activities in Vietnam.  The incumbent will provide interface between the NAMRU-IP director, scientists, and collaborators in the conceptualization, design, execution, data analysis, and publication of new protocols.  The incumbent will assist with developing and maintaining relationships with NAMRU-IP and host country Ministry partners; and as needed support for all NAMRU-IP laboratory and field activities in accordance with laboratory specific protocols.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: A master’s or host country equivalent in microbiology, virology, or health research-related fields is required.     

Experience:   

At least five (5) years of clinical and/or research-based experience is required.

Languages:   

  • Fluent in Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This will be tested.)
  • Fluent in Speaking/Reading/Writing Vietnamese is required.
