The Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme (MCRP) (2019-2021) is the development program that is funded by the governments of Viet Nam and Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Its objective is to support the Vietnamese authorities on their path for a sustainable development of the Mekong Delta through the climate-resilient management of natural resources along the coast.

MCRP will focus on three working areas:

  1. Governance support for national level and 13 Mekong Delta provinces: Support the establishment of an institutional framework for regional coordination in the Mekong Delta
  2. Investment policy for national level and 13 Mekong Delta provinces: Support the improvement of investment planning and coordination for a climate-resilient and gender-sensitive land and water use management incl. coastal protection for the Mekong Delta
  3. Technology and Solutions for seven coastal provinces and An Giang province of the Mekong Delta to intensify the use of innovative and climate-adapted technologies and solutions.

MCRP has a comprehensive workplan focused on three key areas: land-use and agriculture, water and regional coordination in the Mekong Delta. To effectively carry out activities for regional coordination and agriculture additional human resources are required. For this reason MCRP needs the support from an intern for 6 months in 2019.

The Program is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

National Intern
Duty station: Hanoi
Duration: Starting ASAP for 6 months

Main tasks:

  • Support to the task team’s workplan implementation
  • Provide general administrative and technical support for the team and especially for following activities
  • Support the Central Economic Commission in the development of the work proposal for the socio-economic development in Ca Mau Peninsula
  • Support to study on assessment of high technology in rice and selected fruit production in Mekong Delta
  • Support the Ministry of Planning and Investment in developing the portfolio of regional projects/programmes for public investment in Mekong Delta
  • Besides, support the agricultural task team in providing technical assistance to the Vietnam Forestry Directorate to formulate the work proposal for the national action plan on coastal mangrove development and protection period 2021 – 2025 vision 2030

Specifically, the intern’s support activities may include but not limited to:

  • Collection and summary of information and data, existing documents related to the above activities.
  • Support translation of required documents
  • Support in drafting presentations
  • Preliminary proof-reading reports, documents
  • Contacting relevant partners, preparing documents for meetings
  • Participate and prepare for meetings/workshops including invitation letters, agenda, minutes
  • Others if required

Minimum requirements:

  • Vietnamese nationality;
  • Currently undertaking or recently completed postgraduate/bachelor studies in forestry, agriculture, water resource, climate change, transportation, economics, or other related fields;
  • Strong interest in socio economic researches and surveys, legal framework and policy development;
  • Computer literacy and ability to use efficiently the basic Microsoft Office© software (World, Excel, Power Point) and communications tools (internet, email)
  • Good knowledge of English and Vietnamese, written and spoken
  • High self-motivation, soft skills for interpersonal communication and an ability to work independently
  • Open mind and keen to learn and work in a dynamic and intercultural environment
  • Strong interest in networking and international development cooperation
  • The internship requires university enrolment or the finalization of your degree no longer than six months ago upon commencement of the internship.
