The project “Support to VPA process for Vietnam” is commissioned by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the UK with counter-part funds from the Vietnamese Government. The implementing agencies are the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Viet Nam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The project aims to support Vietnamese stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and enterprises, in the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forestry Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VPA/FLEGT) between the EU and Vietnam. The project’s overall objective is to achieve sustainable management of timber supplying forests and strengthen legal compliance and Rule of Law in Vietnam.

The project covers 4 support areas, including:

  1. Support to the development of VNTLAS legal documents, regulations and information management systems related to import controls
  2. Support to capacity building for verification agencies and private sector organizations for the implementation of VNTLAS timber import controls
  3. Support to information and communication related to timber import controls; and
  4. Support to business to business and law enforcement agencies bilateral dialogues contributing to a better mutual understanding of timber legality requirements.

The project “Supporting the implementation of the FLEGT VPA in Vietnam” is commissioned by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with MARD / VNFOREST.

The project’s overall objective is: “to prepare necessary organizational and legal conditions to implement the VPA-FLEGT between Vietnam and the EU”. The project is expected to achieve its objectives by end of 2024 through the implementation of the three following outputs:

  1. The legal requirements and the organizational setting for FLEGT VPA implementation are improved
  2. Selected jointly as VPA conform agreed (EU/Viet Nam) elements of the VNTLAS are operational
  3. The impact monitoring is conducted according to the M&E framework and action plan.

The project is looking for qualified national intern to fill the following position of:

National Intern
Learning area: National Technical Intern/FLEGT
Duty station: Ha Noi, Vietnam.
Duration: for 6 months, starting from February 2022

The National Intern is expected to learn and practice by providing support and assistance to the project team in the various activities:

  • Provide assistance in organization of the internal meetings, project events (preparation, taking minutes, coordinating the participations, logistic arrangement of the field mission etc.);
  • Assist to the research activities, including elaboration of ideas/concepts, term of reference, data collection, desk research, drafting reports; and presentation of the specific topics during technical exchanges within the team);
  • Support in quality assurance of technical activities and deliverables;
  • Join the thematic meeting, workshops organized by partners and report back to the teams;
  • Provide translation services, if required (English and Vietnamese);
  • Support in monitoring and implementing the project activities;
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Vietnamese nationality
  • Currently undertaking (at least third year of study) or has recently completed postgraduate/ bachelor studies in forestry, environment, economics or related majors, no longer than six months from the date of graduation
  • Being able to arrange his/her timetable to take a full-time internship (40 hours/ week)
  • Having an interest in the forestry sector, in particular timber trade and sectoral development policy
  • Good understanding of the forestry sector, timber trade and sectoral development policy is an asset
  • Previous experience in international development cooperation is an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese
  • Strong MS Office, organizational and analytical skills
  • Highly motivated to learn and to contribute to a sustainable forestry sector of Vietnam in an international setting
  • Highly responsible, flexible, goal-oriented and constructive as a team member.
