National Protected Area Specialist (PAS)

Position and scope of work:
The National PA Specialist works under the direction of, and reports directly to, the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA). The National PA Specialist assists the CTA in technical matters regarding protected area management and biodiversity conservation, and in liaison with the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park and relevant line departments and government agencies. The work consists of providing technical advisory support to the PMU and the PNKB NP/WHS and its staff members, at province and district/park level, either directly or in conjunction with the CTA.

- Formal education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in natural resources management, protected area management, landscape ecology, conservation biology, or other relevant discipline.
- Working experience: at least 8 years of general relevant working experience, of which at least 5 years in biodiversity conservation & protected area planning & management Vietnam.
- Thorough understanding and active knowledge base of the legal framework and institutional setting of SUF, protected areas, biodiversity conservation, and environmental law enforcement in Vietnam, and preferably of PFES
- Qualifications or working experience in environmental law enforcement in Vietnam is an advantage
- Fully computer literate with advanced skills in standard office software packages; proficiency in GIS software is an advantage.
- Languages: excellent command of written and verbal English and Vietnamese.
- Working experience in Official Development Assistance (ODA) project(s), preferably in KfW projects, is a strong advantage.
- Consulting and advisory experience is a plus.
- Working experience in multi-disciplinary or multi-cultural projects or organizations is an asset.
- Experience in NGO’s working with Government agencies is an advantage.
