Network Coordinator

Introduction CIRUM

Culture Identity and Resource Use Management (CIRUM) is a Vietnamese NGO established in 2005 working with ethnic minority communes in Lang Son province. CIRUM believes that access and control over forest lands lies at the heart of ethnic minority people’s development and security.

Over past decades, ethnic minority groups in Vietnam witnessed depletion and restrictions in access, control and benefit from forests on which they highly depend. Rapid socio-economic developments and related pressures on natural resources continuously pose challenges for these people to sustain their livelihood, knowledge, stability and identity. Therefore all our interventions aim towards securing ethnic minority people’s access, control and benefit from forest, in line with their own values, traditions and needs. Currently CIRUM works in several communes of Dinh Lap and Huu Lung districts on forest conflict resolution, participatory forest land (re)distribution, local capacity building and community based forest management.
