Networking consultant under the Grassroots Equity and Enhanced Network in the Mekong (GREEN Mekong) Program

GREEN Mekong Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA). RECOFTC, recognized for its leadership in training and capacity building related to forestry and climate change in Asia-Pacific, is the sole implementing partner for the GREEN Mekong program. The program’s goal is to improve capacities of policy makers and grassroots stakeholders in the Lower Mekong region to promote equity in forest-based climate change mitigation policy and practice.

The GREEN Mekong program is looking for a Networking Consultant who will operate as a member of the Capacity Development and Technical Services (CDTS) Program and reports to the Networking and Stakeholder Engagement Program Officer. S/he will provide support for activities under the USAID-funded GREEN Mekong Program and to RECOFTC activities as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Working under the supervision of the Networking and Stakeholder Engagement Program Officer, the consultant will have the following responsibilities and duties:
- Assist in the organization and facilitation of GREEN Mekong events related to networking. This may include events related to: REDD-net, policy makers platform, focus group discussions and learning group activities, and other events as appropriate;
- Support the re-establishment of REDD-net including a kick-off visioning workshop with existing and new core members;
- Assist in the development of a platform of policy maker ‘champions’ for equity in forest management in Mekong countries;
- In close collaboration with the GREEN Mekong Communications Officer, support the development of knowledge products highlighting different dimensions of equity in REDD+;
- Support the development of national consultation briefs highlighting key equity findings and messages to be brought to policy levels;
- In coordination with GREEN Mekong Adult Education Officer, assist in planning grassroots exchanges of community forestry practitioners between GREEN Mekong countries;
- Support the synthesis of information, the preparation of publications, and dissemination of key documents;
- Assist in the development of policy recommendations for submission to international and regional bodies (ASFN, UNFCCC);
- Support background research in the field of networking theory and its relevance to GREEN Mekong and RECOFTC’s ongoing networking activities; and
- Perform any other duties as requested by CDTS Manager, GREEN Mekong Chief of Party or Networking and Stakeholder Engagement Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The GREEN MEKONG Networking Consultant will have the following minimum qualifications and experience:

Essential:
- Degree in rural or international development, forestry, natural resource or environmental management or related social science field;
- International and preferably regional professional experience working in the above fields, especially on issues related to forests and climate change;
- Ability and experience working and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders: civil society and the public in general, government officials, grassroots and local people, and others;
- Strong analytical, communication and writing skills;
- Confident, well-organized, efficient, enjoy working in teams and with people from different cultures and background;
