Photography for SNV REDD+

SNV’s is seeking a professional photographer to take high quality photos that illustrate its activities under the REDD+ project in Lam Dong and Ca Mau provinces. These photos will be used in REDD+ publications to be disseminated worldwide.

The selected photographer should have a good understanding of development work and experience in shooting photos of development activities in Asia.

Background

SNV is a Netherlands-based Development Organisation that catalyses sustainable development processes and contributes to poverty reduction through our specialised advisory services. Our aim is to alleviate poverty by enabling those on the lowest incomes to be part of social and economic networks and so increase their income and employment opportunities. More than half of our work concentrates on economic and private sector development. Alongside this, we contribute to improving people’s access to basic services such as water and sanitation, and energy.

SNV has been active in Vietnam since 1995. With a team of more than 80 international and national staff located across the country, SNV’s work in Vietnam follows "Market-based Solutions for the Poor” motto and focuses on the following key areas:

  • Agriculture 
  • Renewable Energy
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
  • REDD+

The “Delivering Environmental and Social Multiple Benefits from REDD+ in South East Asia” (often referred to as “MB-REDD+”) is part of SNV REDD+ programme. REDD+ publications with types of photo we are seeking can be found here.

Outputs

- At least 150 high resolution and quality photos that illustrate REDD – related work in Lam Dong and Ca mau provinces
- Desired photos should include:

  • Livelihoods: agriculture, agro-forestry, forestry, fishery, other industries (including existing traditional practices and new/innovative models being implemented at the locality. Photo should capture materials, tools, process, products.
  • Local life: Local households, schools, classrooms, cultural houses.
  • Landscape: Forest, mountain, river, waterfall, drivers of forest degradation and deforestation
  • Forest (natural and planted): Photos should also covers issues of deforestation, forest degradation, and biodiversity (flowers, plants, birds, insects, etc.), and feature images of forest rangers, forest protection units…
  • Energy: Types of energy (wood, charcoal…), usage (traditional practices, improved cook stoves…)
  • Portraits of local people, particularly women, ethnic minorities, and children working in different forest landscapes
  • Project activities: Staff working with local people, staff in the field, stakeholders reading project materials (with donor/SNV visibility)
  • Natural resources: Types (water, soil….), and usage
  • Others:
  1. Communications (Related billboards, slogans)
  2. Famous natural/historical/tourism sites of the province
  3. Natural disasters (landslide, drought, flooding…)
  4. Environmental pollution

Requirements

- Proven track records of producing international standard photos
- Proven experience in shooting development activities
- Cost estimates (inclusive of 10% income tax for Vietnam-based photographers and 20% for ones based outside Vietnam). The costs should cover:

  • Photograph shooting and processing
  • 5 working days in Lam Dong, 5 days in Ca Mau
  • Transportation (air fare, taxi  from/to airport to/from hotels) (SNV will arrange transport for field work)
  • Accommodation
  • Food

Timeline

Photography trips to Lam Dong and Ca Mau are expected to take place between October and December, depending on the availability of the photographer and SNV persons in charge. The photographer should indicate his/her time availability in the proposal. Detailed work plan will be discussed with SNV before signing the service agreement.
