Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.

We are non-governmental, non-religious and work with many local NGOs and community based organizations to implement our programs. We currently work in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia – countries with a desperate lack of resources to educate their children. Since our inception, Room to Read’s worldwide team has impacted over 7.8 million children by constructing more than 1,600 schools, establishing over 15,000 libraries, publishing 874 new children’s book titles in 27 local languages, and reaching over 20,000 girls through our Girls’ Education program.

Room to Read has an annual budget of approximately US$43.7 million and our global staff numbers over 600. Our global headquarters is located in San Francisco, and we have smaller fundraising offices in Delhi, New York, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Sydney, and Tokyo. We have an Asia Regional Office located in New Delhi and program offices in Colombo, Dar es Salaam, Dhaka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kathmandu, Lusaka, New Delhi, Pretoria, Phnom Penh, and Vientiane.

Position Overview:

The GEP Program Associate’s overall responsibility is to work in team work with respective Field Manager/Program Manager and Program Officer as well as other GEP members to ensure the program activities are on time implemented and have them monitored. 

The PA will work closely with schools, students and teachers in the program areas. 

General Duties & Responsibilities

The position will work under the direct management of the Field Manager and Program Officer; specifically she will be responsible for:

Activities implementation

  • Planning for program activities and budgets.
  • Working with accountant about payment for activities.
  • Planning for logistic for program activities
  • Participation in Life skills, camps, field trip.
  • Case writing & photos.
  • School monitoring: Meeting with principals, teachers, SMs, girls.
  • Assisting PO in training for SM/ partner/girls (Co- facilitator)
  • Assisting PO for coaching SMs and monitoring SMs work
  • Monitoring program activities at schools.
  • Collect local information related to GEP
  • Get inputs from local partners in to the program.
  • Home visit: coaching to SMs for problem solving to girls
  • Participating in RTR meeting, monthly GEP meeting 
  • Packing the newsletter, timely dispatching and handing over of newsletter to girls and   partners.
  • Participate in any other activities which may be required to be undertaken to fulfill the objectives of the organization.

Management

  • Managing girls situations 
  • Photos collection 
  • Taking date on girls’ education performance:  Attendance, tutoring.
  • Monitor logistics for activities and donor visits (accommodation, meals, and travel.)
  • Work with PMB and Monitor activities and budget implemented by PMB

Data base and Reporting

  • Maintaining & updating records related to girls, parents (GSD).
  • Synthesis of monthly SM report on girls to PO Monitoring actual expenses by SMs.
  • Activity actual expenses report.
  • Ensure receipts/ bills legally collected

Office work and others

  • Support team members when the works required in respective areas
  • Assist PO in office work.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in related fields: either sociology, women’s studies, social work, pedagogic management
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience especially in girls’ education
  • Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators and government officials
  • Good knowledge and understanding of gender issues in education
  • Strong planning, supervisory, and management skills
  • Ability to travel frequently to target provinces
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese
  • Good working experience with education programs/projects
  • Good working experience with local partners, government and other INGOs

Working location: 

She will be working mainly in Tra On district, Vinh Long province. She may travel for work to other provinces or cities upon the request of the organization
