Your role

The Sustainable Trade Initiative is an organization (IDH) that works with businesses, financiers, governments, and civil society to realize sustainable trade in global value chains. IDH accelerates and up-scales sustainable trade by building coalitions of front-running multinational civil society organizations, governments, and other stakeholders. Through convening public and private interests, strengths, and knowledge, IDH’s landscapes program (ISLA) and Coffee programs cooperate with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to help create shared value for all partners aiming at making sustainability the new norm and will driver impact on the Sustainable Development Goals

To strengthen its partners and to coordinate and monitor the implementation of its project/programs in the Central Highlands region in Vietnam, IDH is looking for one (01) field program officer who is able to assist in implementing its field-level projects of UNDP, ISLA and Coffee programs in Lam Dong province. In addition, the candidate will coordinate the development of new projects under the ISLA and coffee programs during the period 2022-2025. The candidate will facilitate different stakeholders' and partners’ engagement in order to deliver the project's objectives effectively.  The program field officer reports to and receives technical guidance from the IDH Central Highland Field Coordinator

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project coordination: Coordinate the development and implementation of the ISLA/coffee projects in the assigned province, supported by the global and local team. Together with the team, this role will develop an annual work plan, and budget and identity implementing partners to contract and coordinate provincial and district steering committee workshops.
  • Coordinate to design Compact Intervention Plan: Support field coordinator, and technical advisor in bringing the landscape unit/landscape cell (LU/LC) into practice by working with a consultancy to develop the technical guidelines on the priority of interventions and training for the designed LU/LC.
  • Stakeholder convening and interaction: Coordinate and convene key stakeholders including supply chain actors, private, public, and non-government organizations, together with local governments and funders to several projects funded by other NGOs in Lac Duong and the partnership/collaboration to harmonize the common interests and enable environmental conditions for their contribution to the project's successes.
  • Monitoring & evaluation: Collaborate with funders and the implementing partners to carry out the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities of the projects to deliver project outputs and impact pathway, using the deployment of an online reporting tool and M&E, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification system (MRV) in aligning with VSAs and its targets.
  • Communication: Contribute to developing communication and other learning and sharing materials (e.g. proposals) while Keeping relevant stakeholders informed on plans and progress.
  • Learning: Bring the most advanced and appropriate practices to the projects from previous experience; facilitate the dissemination of knowledge in Central Highlands and Vietnam; identify and document the lessons learned based on local reality on the ground.

Who you are

You are an experienced project officer/coordinator in the area of sustainable agriculture management and/or natural resources management. You combine technical knowledge with facilitation and negotiation skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. You have a solid understanding of the sustainability issues in agricultural supply chains, especially on coffee in the Central Highlands region.

Program Field officer will be based in Lam Dong and will work in full -time manner under the personnel management of the Coffee and ISLA (Senior) Program Manager.

What you bring

  • Interpersonal and open mind to the relationship with key international and Vietnam stakeholders and experience in building innovative alliances between them.
  • Passion for, knowledge of and experience in the field of sustainability
  • Experience with coffee sector development programs in Vietnam
  • At least Bachelor’s degree in trade, economics, agriculture or relevant
  • Knowledge of agronomy (preferably on coffee)
  • Spoken and written communication skills in Vietnamese (native) and English (fluent);
  • Willingness to travel extensively to the Central Highlands area, approximately 30-40% of your time.
