Program Manager

Orbis is a leading global non-governmental organization whose mission is to eliminate avoidable blindness in developing countries. Since 1982, Orbis has been a pioneer in global eye health, and has worked in 92 countries. Orbis is well known for its "Flying Eye Hospital", an ophthalmic hospital and teaching facility located on board aircraft.

Orbis started running long-term projects in Vietnam in 1996 and set up its office in Hanoi in 2003. The organization plays a leading role in strengthening the country capacity to address the blindness challenges including Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Paediatric Eye Care, Eye bank, and Diabetic Retinopathy. The organization also takes lead in advocating for national eye care policy changes.

Currently, Orbis has been working to demonstrate an efficient, low cost and integrated DR management model as a reference for the government to deploy it nation-wide. To take this initiative forward and prepare for the launching of Diabetic Eye Care Program period 2020-2025, Orbis is seeking for a high-competent Program Manager to join our motivated and committed team. Beside solid experience in program and project management, she/he must have leadership ability to drive the change required to achieve the program goal and objectives.

The Program Manager will have opportunities to participate in national and international forums and seminars, opportunities for study tours to share experiences with other countries .

This position will be contracted first for six months, from July to December, 2019 and could be considered for a fulltime position based on the performance and funding availability.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in management, development, public health or a relevant field. Medical doctor /Phd is a plus;
  • Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in program management, planning and implementation of public health programs, development program or other managerial position;
  • Strong leadership skills, idealized influence, self-motivated;
  • Experience and confidence to challenge the status quo;
  • Proven experience in proposal writing and management, research and evaluation, familiarity with donor funded development projects;
  • Strong ability in report writing;
  • High interest and capable of information technology;
  • Knowledge of the national public eye health care program, agenda, issues, impacts, research, infrastructure, current issues and best practices, culturally aware, patient and sensitive is a strong advantage.
