Organization Background
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a US non-profit, tax-exempt, private organization established in 1895 that saves wildlife and wild places by understanding critical issues, crafting science-based solutions, and taking conservation actions that benefit nature and humanity. WCS Viet Nam Program Overview
WCS has been working in Viet Nam since early 2006 to strengthen the commitment and capacity of the Vietnamese government to combat wildlife trafficking. It has established a well-respected presence in the country, providing support to a range of government agencies. WCS Viet Nam have generated a wide range of reliable data on a number of related issues and trained about 1,200 law enforcement officers from a range of agencies in investigation and enforcement techniques, and distributed a number of technical handbooks and guides. It has assisted central agencies to review and propose criminal intelligence analysis systems, inter-agency agreements and cooperation, national legislation, and have supported bi-lateral dialogues to suppress the wildlife trade and strengthen Viet Nam’s enforcement response. Its wildlife health expertise has been leveraged in Viet Nam to address core conservation issues, like wildlife trade, through collaborative research, training, and policy development.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Program Manager is to assist the Country Program Director to identify priorities and new approach for Viet Nam country program. S/he will supervise thematic teams and ensure effective integration of program activities towards expected outcomes. The Program Manager will work closely with the Grant Manager and the Finance Manager to participate in fundraising and development of WCS policies and strategy, and represent WCS in meetings and workshops, both domestically and internationally.
This Job Description is progressive in nature and shall be reviewed and amended from time to time to meet WCS Viet Nam program needs.
Major Responsibilities
- Develops and supports the implementation of program activities in line with the Vietnam and Asia strategies;
- Supervises and coaches different thematic teams with their grant implementation;
- Produces programmatic reports and other required technical documents (e.g., workplans, technical reports) for WCS and donors on schedule;
- Co-leads the fundraising process in collaboration with the in-country Grant Manager and the Finance Manager, and with the WCS Counter Wildlife Trafficking Director, Asia Program and WCS NY staff, as appropriate;
- Promotes wildlife conservation in Vietnam with government, donors and other non-governmental organizations through meetings, speaking engagements, media interviews, writing, and other general communications;
- Acts as WCS’s representative at provincial and national events as required;
- Involves in the organization’s process of recruitment as requested;
- Any other duties as requested by the direct supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum Master Degree in Law, Public Administration, Business Management or other relevant field;
- 7-10 years of experience working in similar position; Experience with non-profit sector (NGO, International organizations) is an added advantage;
- Knowledge and understanding on Government systems, environmental issues, law enforcement, wildlife trafficking and conservation
- Proven track record of fundraising and donor relations
- Ability to lead, supervise and coach the versatile teams
- Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills;
- Proficient in written and verbal communication skills in English Language;
