Project Assistant
Position title: Project Assistant (ACT II tuberculosis study)
Employer: The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Sydney University
Reports directly to supervisor: Project Officer
Contract type: Full-time
Duration: 1 year with possible extension; 2 month probationary period
Duty location: Based in Ha Noi with some travel to other provinces in Viet Nam.
Description of the research programme
The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research (WIMR) is a leading Australian-based research organization that conducts research into lung diseases such as tuberculosis and asthma. WIMR is undertaking a major public health research project in Vietnam, in partnership with the Vietnam National Tuberculosis Program. The project will examine the transmission of tuberculosis within households, and will be conducted throughout Vietnam. The project will run until the end of 2014.
Job Summary:
This position is based in Hanoi, with travel to Provinces throughout Vietnam.
They are seeking a Project Assistant to take on a role in the implementation of this project. The project is being conducted in District clinics of the National Tuberculosis Program based in Hanoi, in northern, central and southern Vietnam. This position will involve particular responsibility for data management. It will also involve monitoring visits at partner Government hospitals and clinics where the research is being performed. She or he will work closely with a Project Officer and staff at Vietnamese hospitals and clinics and senior Australian researchers.
Main duties
Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer, the roles of this employee will be the following:
1. Quality control and checking of research data from sites participating in our research
2. Preparing regular reports with feedback about data and progress of research
3. Data analysis, including working with EpiInfo and Excel
4. Research monitoring visits to District Clinics
5. Oversight of website-based data tools
6. Other administrative tasks required for implementation of the research
7. 20% of time traveling to visit other sites outside of Ha Noi
Qualifications:
Education:
A health-related University degree.
Competencies
1. Good organizational and administrative skills
2. Ability to work as a part of a team
3. Typing skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and web browsers
4. Experience with EpiInfo or other statistical software
5. Knowledge of the public health sector in Viet Nam
6. Reasonable English language skills
