The “Green Innovation Centre in the Agricultural and Food Sector” (GIC) Vietnam is implemented in the six provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Kien Giang and Soc Trang in the Mekong Delta. The project aims at strengthening the key agricultural value chains of rice and mango in the Mekong Delta through increasing the efficiency of the use of natural resources, improving farming systems towards sustainability, and the creation of value addition. GIC Vietnam is part of the Global Green Innovation Centres in the Agriculture and Food Sector Programme implemented in 16 countries as part of a German special Initiative.

The project is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Project Officer “GIC”

Duty station: Can Tho City, Viet Nam

Duration: Starting ASAP to 31.03.2025

Main tasks:

  • Planning, implementing, and monitoring of all project capacity development interventions for smallholder farmers and cooperatives in 6 Provinces of the Project in the Mekong Delta.
  • Strengthening the capacity building of smallholder farmers and cooperatives. This includes content, learning and resource requirements.
  • Advising the project’s implementation partners from the public, private and cooperative sector to effectively implement capacity building measures.
  • Advising political partner on provincial and national level on the upscaling of FBS according to decision No. 4880/QD-BNN-KTHT on the vocational training programme „Agribusiness“
  • Advising political partners on provincial and national level on promotion of the Mango business School
  • Advising and providing technical input on the concept of the Farmer Business School (FBS) to GIC relevant stakeholders and other projects in GIZ´s Climate and Agriculture Unit (Climate Resilient Agriculture Systems, Agriculture Climate Risk Finance).
  • Support scaling up of business innovations for the vocational schools in line with government partner. 
  • Ensure the gender sensitivity and responsiveness of capacity building material and implementation
  • Consolidating learning experience on a variety of implemented concepts and innovations
  • Representing the Green Innovation Centre Team Vietnam to share experiences on concepts and innovations with the global Green Innovation Centre Team regularly (working groups, regional conferences)
  • Support to other technical matters in the project on Policy advice, market linkages, and M&E based on request.

Minimum requirements:

  • Master´s degree in agriculture, planning and development, rural development or similar
  • More than 15 years of professional experience in development projects
  • More than 12 years of experience in areas such as agriculture and rural development, climate change adaptation and mitigation, livelihood improvement, small and medium sized enterprise development, cooperative development
  • Extensive experience in working with provincial partners, smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and small and medium sized enterprises in the Mekong Delta
  • Practical experience in value chain development
  • Experience in gender mainstreaming and working with women
  • High proficiency in English
