The Better Rice Initiative Asia (BRIA), which is implemented by GIZ and other partners, aims to foster the cooperation between private and public sector institutions to promote sustainable growth in agricultural production and improved access to nutrition within the food sector in emerging and developing countries. BRIA seeks to improve rice value chains and rice-based nutrition in four Southeast Asian (SEA) countries, namely Indonesia, the Thailand, and Vietnam. In Vietnam, the objectives are to improve rice quality and farmers’ incomes, promote market linkages and enhance the capacity of Farmer Cooperatives by fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships between farmers, rice millers, input suppliers and government extension service workers in the Mekong Delta.

The project is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Project Officer “BRIA”
Duty Station: Can Tho / Ho Chi Minh City
Duration: ASAP until 31. December 2021

Main responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage Better Rice Initiative Asia (BRIA) 2 nd phase - Market Oriented Smallholder Value Chains (MSVC), which is a public private partnership with Olam international.
  • Promote the public-private-partnership with the objective to improve rice quality and farmers’ incomes, and market linkages and enhance the capacity of farmer cooperatives.
  • Provide technical advice on agriculture to national and provincial authorities in Vietnam.
  • Manage several service providers who design and implement capacity development measures for farmers (trainings, workshops and others)
  • Be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the project activities.
  • Actively shaping the cooperation between all involved institutions from the public and private sectors.

Minimum requirements

  • MSc degree in agriculture and rural development or equivalent.
  • Good skills in English language, in speaking, reading and report writing.
  • Experience in executive functions in private sector; research institute; development cooperation and/or public administration of minimum 5 years.
  • Impact of climate change, climate smart agriculture, sustainable use of natural resources at community level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of agricultural production technologies and farm economics.
  • Practical knowledge of Integrated Pest Management and implementation of sustainability and quality standards would be an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
