Project Officer

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was established on 1st January 2011. It brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the German Development Service (DED), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany. As a federally owned enterprise, it supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.

For many years, Viet Nam has been a priority partner country for German Development Cooperation. Projects and programmes cover the following three priority areas of cooperation, which are closely interlinked with the overarching goal of Poverty Reduction: 1) Sustainable Economic Development and Vocational Training; 2) Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Urban Development; and 3) Health.

GIZ Kien Giang “Conservation and Development of the Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve” funded by AusAID started implementing in July 2008. The overall objective of the project is to utilise the natural resources of Kien Giang province in a sustainable way with effective management of the projected areas. The project key sites in Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve include U Minh Thuong National Park, Phu Quoc National Park Hon Dat district, Kien Luong District, An Minh District and An Bien District. Phase 2 of the project is implementing its second phase from July 2011 to June 2014.

The project is working on integrated coastal forest management (mangrove and Melaleuca forest), biodiversity conservation and livelihood improvement for local people along the coast of Kien Giang Province. This project will also work closely with other 4 provinces in the Mekong Delta as a component of a new program, the Integrated Coastal Management Program (ICMP) Climate Change in Coastal Ecosystems Program (CCCEP) which is jointly funded by the Australian and German Governments and implemented by GIZ.

GIZ is seeking a qualified and experienced Vietnamese national for the full-time positions of:

Project Officer
Duty Station: Rach Gia, Kien Giang with frequent travelling to project locations

Main responsibilities:

- co-ordinates the activities of  biodiversity and livelihood components
- follows up the project monitoring system, updates information concerning the progress of the project, periodically documents and reports the results of the activities
- assists in the planning, coordination, and documentation of meetings, workshops, seminars and other activities of the project, focusing on the technical aspects
- assists the Team Leader and/or other experts of the project to fulfil their tasks during their assignment
- conducts specific research needed for the project planning or implementation
- supports public relations activities for the project/program
- plans  and conducts  training and information sharing events as well as assists in planning and organisation of study tours
- carries out specific tasks concerning the knowledge management in the program/project

Minimum qualifications:

- University degree in a scientific field related to the programs goals – biodiversity management, livelihood improvement  or natural resource management.
- Minimally 3 years of professional working experience in a similar position
- Experiences in project management is an advantage
- Research experience in a field of expertise related to the program’s needs
- Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems, IT-know-how (MSOffice, Access or other database program)
- Languages: excellent proficiency in written and spoken English
