Fauna & Flora International –Vietnam Programme is now recruiting a Cao Bang and Hai Phong Provincial Coordinator

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Start Date: As soon as possible

Duration: One year fixed-term contract with possible extension

Probation Period: Three months

Salary Range: 900-1200 USD gross per month

Hours of work: This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m, with a one-hour lunch break

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Cao Bang & Hai Phong Provincial Coordinator

Reporting to: FFI Vietnam Programme Director

Overall objective:

  • To coordinate the Cao Vit Gibbon and Cat Ba Conservation Project ensuring effective implementation in the field and supporting to develop the project.
  • To provide technical support to other primate programme projects

Main duties:

Coordinating the Cao Vit Gibbon Conservation Project in Cao Bang Province and the Cat Ba Conservation Project in HaiPhong Province:

Coordinate the Cao Vit Gibbon Conservation Project to ensure effective progress of the project in Cao Bang Province to meet its conservation goals, including the following:

  • Acting as a focal point for coordination of all project activities.
  • Preparing monthly workplans and reports.
  • Providing technical and managerial support to project partners.
  • Developing terms of references and budgets for project activities and activities of project partners
  • Supervision all field activities implemented by FFI and partners and Employees.
  • Managing project funds for field operations and take responsibility for expenditures of project funds and reporting expenditure.
  • Maintaining good working relations with provincial, district, commune and community partners.
  • Supporting field visits and field work by visitors, advisors and Employees.
  • Supporting the provision of technical assistance and training for partners and community members.

Supporting development of the FFI Vietnam Primate Programme:

Work with FFI Vietnam Programme Director to ensure effective project management and development, including the following:

  • Supporting development of an annual work plan for projects
  • Supporting development of funding proposals and project reports
  • Drawing from field experience develop concepts for new project activities
  • Working with project partners to identify project needs to meet conservation objectives, and define measures to meet those needs.
  • Requesting support for other FFI staff to support project activities where required and provide supervision to enable them to effectively carry out their tasks.
  • Monitoring project progress and evaluating conservation impact of the project

Technical support to the primate programme at all sites:

Providing technical support to the primate programme through training staff and partners, implementing, monitoring and evaluating field activities.

Provide input particularly in the following fields:

  • Sustainable non-timber forest product development
  • Agroforestry
  • Rural development and livelihood development
  • Rural appraisal and land use planning
  • Project monitoring and evaluation

Other duties:

  • Undertake tasks in support of the FFI Vietnam Programme that may reasonably be requested by Senior Management Staff.
  • Ensure that project office and field operations are conducted to a high level of health, safety, integrity, environmental good practice and cultural sensitivity. This includes ensuring that field medical kits are in good order and taken out on every field trip
  • Ensure that FFI policies and guidelines are followed within the implementation of the FFI Vietnam Primate Programme

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Key skills:

1.    MSc in forestry, natural resource management, conservation or similar field
2.    At least 3 years managing conservation or development projects in an NGO context
3.    Experience in implementing agroforestry, agricultural extension, community development and alternative livelihood projects.
4.    Experience working with and supporting protected area management boards and co-management mechanisms
5.    Experience in managing and/or supporting law enforcement units
6.    Good interpersonal skills – able to work effectively with local communities and government partners.
7.    Good levels of written and spoken English including technical report writing

Desired skills:

1.    Biological survey experience, especially in relation to primates
2.    Financial management training
3.    Publications and/or fundraising record
4.    SMART and GIS skills
